[I can't serve a God out of fear. Jesus is about love, and this music shows kids that.]
There's nothing wrong with a good holy fear of God. Those who truly love God WILL fear Him. The awesome, knee-shaking fear of God is a theme conspicuously absent from C-Rock music. (See Daniel 10:7-10, Isaiah 6:1-5, Ezekiel 1:28, 3:23, Hebrews 12:18-21, & Revelation 1:12-17). The C-Rock crowd is a perfect picture of what happens to people when there is no fear of God before their eyes.
Psalm 40:3 says our conversion will put a NEW song in our mouth that will cause those who hear it to FEAR! (Does C-Rock do that? They're too busy dancing!)
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, (Psalm 111:10). Only by fearing God can we know what true godly love is.

You meant "god-hole."
Are you Jewish or Christian? Most of those books are from the OT, aren't they?
Jesus (NT) is more about love than the OT is.
True love often comes with fearing FOR the people we love, not fearing THEM; that would be an abusive relationship.
I lived in soul shaking terror of someone once, so much so that I went from a disgustingly chipper child to a constantly depressed shut-in afraid to speak above a whisper or perform any act including reading a book quietly in my room without explicit permission because I'd be punished for walking around the house or getting too many glasses of water. In fact I'd be punished for no legitimate reason just to establish that I was always in the wrong and should never question it even with solid proof of my innocence and an outright confession that the asshole knows it because I'd be getting an even more creative punishment like being locked in a room without lightbulbs. I most certainly did not love the son of a bitch. I feared him more than getting beaten. I feared him specifically more than any of the twisted shit he did to me. I feared him more than dying.
No amount of fear could possibly make me love anyone. I feared him as much as a man could fear anything and that fear kept me under his thumb until he crossed the one line that gave me my spine back: Turning that shit on the few people left I loved. Love trumped fear and for a few brief seconds, even as I was being punched in the mouth and thrown into the walls with a litany of other threats being made against me, I didn't fear a goddamned thing.
Do you really expect anyone operating under the same premise to fare any better? It doesn't matter if you strap me to a chair and torture me forever, it doesn't matter if you can explode the world with a thought, and it doesn't matter if you're literally the reason I exist: I will never love somebody that tries to force me to fear them, they don't deserve anyone's love.
If your God actually existed and was the tyrant you believe him to be I would spit in his face and march towards Hell of my own volition rather than bending my knee.
Trust me, I fear your god as much as I fear Darth Vader, or Voldemort, or any other fictional character.
Translation: I'm a big fucking wuss bag who's afraid of the invisible man.
Goddamn you're pathetic.
If god exists, she disdains you for being a total coward.
I think I read somewhere that the original word was mistranslated to "fear" when "respect" or "revere" fit better. I don't remember where, though. Anyway, this makes much more sense when I take that into account.
Wow, Passerby, your childhood sounds just...AWFUL beyond my capacity to describe in mere words. Would you like me to add what you just described to the Tear Jerker section of FSTDT's TV Tropes, or is merely expression my profuse sympathies enough?
Fuck you, frummer! God/Deity is LOVE! You're God is an idiot!
Unlike what Machavelli (likely in satire) wrote, it's better to be LOVED than to be feared!
Frummers just get off on pain & sadism! So what if people prefer a kinder God of LOVE? They're still worshiping the Guy, right?! They're still devoted! They're still practicing! WHY THE HELL SHOULD IT MATTER?
It matters to you because you are evil children of Evil! You are the worshipers of Khorne! You are spiritual vampires who relish & subsist on the suffering of others!
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, (Psalm 111:10)."
The only thing I see proved by that statement is that Jeff Godwin is part of the fundamentalist bubble in step with the Dominionists. This verse, used sparingly only a couple years ago is now constantly being barked out.
Why? They've been steadily losing ground to science and it's ability to reach people in the internet age, young folk are leaving the fundamentalist sects unable to accept the 16th century standards.
How do we counter? Science is atheistic, Atheists are stupid sayith the lord.
There's no evidence for this of course, but that never stopped them before.

I won't lie, it sucked. Sometimes it sucked HARD but it's not like I was never happy. I was mostly trying to put emphasis on the similarities between Jeff's idea of God and a man who was as far from being loved by me as any human being could get.
I'd much rather be known for something cool rather than a downer like my childhood but if you think there's any meaning to it I've no objections. Considering how I already made it to TVTropes immortality I guess I shouldn't complain. Maybe it'll add some weight next time I find myself shouting down somebody like Loco in the Cocoand they'll have an epiphany.
Also, what non-C-Rock Christian music inspires fear & horror, most of it is either banal, upbeat or really maudlin.
I've been to a number of churches & heard a number of different styles. I've heard stuff "The Prayer of St. Francis" (Simple, gentle, peaceful, inspiring), "Sing A New Song Unto The Lord" (Basic, nice but nothing exciting), "Via Dolorosa" (Sad, tearjerking, maudlin, melancholy) or the upbeat, rip-roaring holy-roller "Praise & Worship" stuff from frum-churches. I have yet to hear a hymn that involves pure terror & fear.
Maybe you've been listening to the wrong C-Rock. Maybe you should try Un-Black Metal. It's Black Metal without the Satan/Pagan stuff but has lyrics that are scary, downbeat, angry, fire-and-brimstone junk.
@SpukiKitty
I agree with you in almost everything, but the bit about Machiavelli. While I think The Prince is a work of satire, that particular bit has been woefully bashed by people that don't know the full context of it, due to a mistranslation. That particular bit went more or less like this: A ruler must try to be loved and feared, but if he can't have both, he should choose to be feared in a way that avoids hatred.
But other than this, you're right.
Okay, Passerby, it's been added to Tear Jerker. I'd give you a hug to make you feel better about that ordeal, but that's rather difficult over the Internet.
So, all I can offer you are my sympathies.
our conversion will put a NEW song in our mouth that will cause those who hear it to FEAR!
Brace yourselves, everybody. I think Christian Rock is about to embrace karaoke.
See Daniel 10:7-10, Isaiah 6:1-5, Ezekiel 1:28, 3:23, Hebrews 12:18-21, & Revelation 1:12-17
Yeah, but where did Jesus say that?
Acutally, there's a line in proverbs that says he feels sad for any that fear him.
And relates his sadness to a father's for being feared- saying he want's to be respected naturally and loved. NOT FORCED ON PEOPLE, NOT MAD TO RESPECT THROUGH FEAR AND HATE.

PASTOR MATTHEW ABLORDEY
I truly love my mother. I don't fear her one iota; I know that she'd do anything and everything in her power to protect and help her children and grandchildren. She'd rather go to hell herself (though she's probably the most religious person in our family), than to let any of us be brought there. That's how a loving parent/creator acts. And, funnily enough, that was what Jesus did; he died so that others may live.
Those who fear their parents seldom have a loving relationship with them...
