If people are so unhappy at being parents, it is no surprise if they are constantly brow beaten by anti family writers like yourself.
As a liberal intellectual you no doubt find your greatest joy in robbing people of meaning in their lives. Is this because you are bitter yourself? Do you care how many people you might tip over the edge into depression? Does it make you feel better?
Personally I and my wife live for our kids. There is nothing greater nor more significant than founding a family. Every joy comes from the children. The ramifications in creating a family are that you are actually creating thousands of new wonderful people in your own image, far into the future.
The greatest peace of mind is in knowing you have followed the eternal laws of nature. That you are a winner just like all your millions of ancestors.
There is joy knowing the golden thread continues and a smugness that the childless are natures' losers on the road to genetic extinction.

How is that possible, if you're going to be craptured any minute now.

So, you're a liberal intellectual as well?
Great, great news, everyone: this guy's been well and truly taken to pieces on the site itself. See subsequent comments on there.
Don't ya love it when that happens? Restores a bit of faith in humanity.
All mammals, including rats, goats, and chimps, have families. From my perspective, family doesn't mean fuck-all. You have to accomplish something in your life above what lower animals are capable of. Otherwise, sorry, you're nothing but breeding stock.

Perhaps Keith Bentham and his wife are brine-shrimp. Talk about being R-selected.
*Also, its kind of cool that Bentham uses the word ramification, in that the term originally referred to branches of a tree...like an evolutionary tree.

Nope, drinking the blood of fundies in my gold chalice during a satanic ritual is what I find the MOST fun.
"Personally I and my wife live for our kids."
Personally I doubt that. I think you and your wife's egos are satisfied through your kids (ever see parents fighting at a sports event?)
"The greatest peace of mind is in knowing you have followed the eternal laws of nature"
The greatest peace of mind is not being insecure due to fundie brainwashing. I've seen good families and bad families, and the thing that makes good families is good PEOPLE, not the mere fact that they were families in the first place. What is this obsession with the 1950s stereotypes anyways? Do any fundies realize how silly all this would sound to a 'family' four centuries ago?
"and a smugness that the childless"
So you are proud of your smugness? In the name of Jesus, SHUT THE FUCK UP.
The greatest peace of mind is knowing that you have accomplished the same thing as the lowest life form in reproducing? That must explain why liver flutes and flatworms and such always have those smug little grins on their faces.
All snarking aside, however, I do worry about the children this guy spawns. If they are not exactly in his and his wife's image (if, they turn out to have minds of their own and become liberal, for example), is he going to exercise his god-like perogative and smite them or throw them into an incinerator?
The extinction of what?, of not having a descendant, who is a totally different person than you?. Of course, you're hinting that it's not the same if they turn out to be spoilt brats.
And if your children are sterile, never marry, are gay or are not meant to be parents?, extinction too?
Oh, how I love being one of nature's losers on the road to genetic extinction. Seriously.
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to get back to doing whatever I want, all the time, for the rest of my life.
Every joy comes from the children.
Oh, even if they turn out to be a fucking asshole, or gay, or god forbid a liberal, or born with birth defects or die of cancer by age 6??? Somehow I doubt YOU would still love them just as much.

Don't worry hun, humans aren't going extinct any time soon; I couldn't care less if that makes me a "nature's loser". :D
"There is joy knowing the golden thread continues and a smugness that the childless are natures' losers on the road to genetic extinction."
You need only to look in the mirror to find smugness, asshole.
Furthermore, a family is not a species, though I'm sure an exception could be made in your case. Whether or not a person or couple breeds has virtually zero bearing on the genetic makeup of the human species.
Lastly, go die in a fire before you create any more of your kind.
Any of you ever read "The Selfish Gene?"
I forget the author, but I'm sure he was a raging fundimentalist - much like the author of the above comment.
It's not like your consciousness is carried on with your genetics, you'll still just be a carcass rotting in the ground.
In other words, it don't mean shit if you have 0, 10, or 100 offspring. Your DNA will be rapidly diluded with each generation, anyway.
Assuming you breed outside your family.
Actually, the joy in the lives of childless intellectuals comes from taking ignorant peasants' children, showing them some real things about the world, thus helping them be better, smarter people than their hick-ass shitbag parents. I hope you don't mind having most or all of your children regard you as a fool and pretty much ignore you once they reach adulthood. At least, because of us liberal, childless intellectuals, your kids will have a chance at doing something worthwhile with their lives, as long as they can escape the tainting influence of your ignorance and arrogance.
If you think "every joy comes from the children", I feel extremely sorry for your wife. She must feel very left out.PS I have two children I worship and a wife I adore. I'm a very lucky man, but there must be some husband and wife time to enjoy without the kids in every successful marriage.
BCD:
Funny you should mention the Selfish Gene, as I was about to quote the following in responce to this loon:
"But as each generation passes, the contribution of your genes is halved. It does not take long to reach negligible proportions. Our genes may be immortal, but the collection of genes that is any one of us is bound to crumble away. Elizabeth II is a direct descendant of William the Conqueror. Yet it is quite probable that she bears not a single one of the old king's genes. We should not seek immortality in reproduction ."
Richard Dawkins, The Selfish Gene, Chapter 11.
{ . . . you no doubt find your greatest joy in robbing people of meaning in their lives. Do you care how many people you might tip over the edge into depression? }
A few words from a skeptic can do all this to him? Pretty frail belief system if you ask me.
So...every person, no matter how fit of a parent they may be, should be barking out kids, then. This...makes sense to you?
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
