"Theory" means that there is overwhelming evidence to support an item, but that for one reason or another they cannot classify it as a "Law" yet.
Okay, if you're going to talk about scientific subjects, it would really help your case if you would at least learn to spell and use good grammer first. The second thing that would also help matters greatly is if you were to learn a little bit about the subject on which your trying to comment. Theories are peer-reviewed. Others can criticize the theory and, if they have a better idea, they can research and formulate their own theory. Then the cycle starts again. Eventually, the theory which is best supported by the available evidence is widely adopted, though it can be abandoned if better evidence surfaces supporting some other theory.

Even if that is true, you are forgetting that there are bacteria, viruses, fungi, slime-molds, plants. etc., many of which do not reproduce sexually.

Papabear - Viruses can't reproduce on their own, so lots of people don't consider them to actually be alive with all that that word entails. Instead, they have to inject their genetic material and steal a cell's machinery in a process that bears a truly remote resemblance to sexual reproduction, just with chestbursters instead of babies.

Learn what a scientific theory is before you open your mouth. It's no guarantee that you won't still say something stupid, but it lessens the chances a bit.

Yes, and illness comes about because you don't believe in God enough and you can only cure it with bible study and prayer. Because, as we all know, one-celled organisms cannot reproduce and are therefore killed off rather quickly by your immune system before you can exhibit any symptoms.
Single cell organisms reproduce all the time, as Fearless would soon discover if he contracted amoebic dysentery, malaria or giardiasis. Some (plasmodia = malaria) can even reproduce sexually by casting off gametes that fuse to grow a new organism. It's hard to see how this affects the theory of evolution.

It does NOT mean "something scientists just came up with while drinking one evening."Skyfire: Actually, the current use of the word "theory" in science is equivalent to the more archaic use of the term "law"; despite the way it has sometimes been presented in elementary school science classes, there isn't a hierarchy of hypothesis --> theory --> law. Theory is as high as it gets in science, and "law" is just a theory that was established before they stopped using the term "law"; we just still use the term for those originally given the term because it was so well established with them that it was considered not worth the trouble to change the term (and some people also felt, for some reason, that it was more respectful to such giants as Newton, for instance, to just keep it that way). When someone uses the term "physical laws," that is just a colloquialism that stems from this early practice.
