There never was an American language, a Canadian language, an Australian language, an Indian language, a Nigerian language. Having a single language unique to you was never a necessary criterion for being a people. Jews are a people, and Jews speak many different languages. Oh, and Palestinians have their own dialect of Arabic.

It is true that, until the 1950s, most Palestinians thought of themselves as Syrians. That does not mean they came from what is now Syria; it means that people traditionally thought of Syria as encompassing all of what is now Israel, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria.
