*On female prisoners in California being forcibly sterilized*
I have no problems with this. If they don't want to be sterilized they shouldn't be committing crimes. It's no bigger a violation of their human rights than locking them in a metal cage for several months or years.
You don't have to believe that criminality is genetic in order to know criminals probably wouldn't make good parents.

And, hypothetically, if the state decides that Christians / the Irish / people over 30 don't make the best parents, you'd be OK with them being forcibly sterilized too?

Why only female prisoners? Wouldn't it be more "effective" to sterilize male prisoners? They can impregnate a new woman every day, but females can only produce offspring once every 9 months.

Go read the rest of the thread. He goes on to argue that it's no more a hardship than being in prison, and that the criminals can always adopt years later when/if they are deemed fit.
Sterilization is not any part of the punishment to which they were sentenced.
I presume you wouldn't mind my removing your left foot because your rain gutters aren't clean and your lawn is not properly mowed. I mean, if you didn't want your foot amputated you should have kept up with your chores.

I don't think his atheism (presuming he is an atheist) has anything to do with this, I think he's just an asshole period.
He's also mentioned, in the distant past, that he believes the homeless should be sterilized. So this isn't even the worst thing he's said.

Someone was calling him a religious nut. I was just pointing out that he (to the best of my memory, since I haven't been there for awhile) is an atheist.
I...ze blue fuck does he think sterilizing homeless people is going to do? Does he not realize most homeless people are only homless for less than six months? And that it is almost always due to unforseen hardships? Or that a signifigant portion of the USA's armed forces will be homeless at some point in their lives?
Or that there is a serious difference between incarceration/homelessness and the removal of bodily autonomy?
This isn't new I'm sorry to say. There's a few states where mandatory sterilization is a thing. And that's just disturbing. The solution to criminals who are bad parents is to take their kids from them, not this.
Now, I can see there being a case that if in addition to being a criminal, the person in question was a serial abuser and/or killer of children, they should be sterilized, as that would deprive them of new victims. But those would be pretty isolated cases.
All in favor of sterilizing Cataclysm and the sick fucks doing this with a sledgehammer, say "aye".
EDIT: oh, and wanna bet that the victims of this atrocity are even more disproportionately black or latina than the already-ethnically-unbalanced US prison population?
