[coalition of Jacksonville pastors campaigning against proposed LGBT non-discrimination ordinance]
We oppose this bill for multiple reasons. First, fundamental evangelical Christians with a biblical worldview agree homosexuality is an abominable sin according to Romans 1:22-32, and anyone supporting this bill may be in danger of having a "reprobate mind". Therefore we are refuting the small group of local pastors supporting this bill as they do not represent the majority of main stream Christianity. Second, we our calling on the city council to repent and reject this bill for these reasons. We reject the theory that this is an "anti discrimination bill" as the bill takes away the rights of the majority of our citizens and gives special rights and class to a small minority of people. We have spoken so politically correct we have desensitized a generation to homosexuality, it is not an alternative lifestyle, it is sodomy, perversion and sin. We know God will bless or curse this city according to our law and public policy as Proverbs 14:34 states "Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people."

Exactly which rights are being taken away from the majority?
I hear that argument a lot, but no one who makes that claim ever successfully explains which rights they are losing. I think you're just upset that the rights of other are being upheld against your persecution.
Hey, here's a gay guy,

Would you "Men Of The Cloth" kindly tell that to his face?
Meanwhile, this happens in the Pastor's pants....

"First, fundamental evangelical Christians with a biblical worldview agree homosexuality is an abominable sin according to Romans 1:22-32..."
But, of course, no one is forcing you to become an homosexual nor forcing you or your Church to perform same-sex marriages.
"We reject the theory that this is an "anti discrimination bill" as the bill takes away the rights of the majority of our citizens and gives special rights and class to a small minority of people."
Uh, no. You're saying that most people have a right to step on the rights of minorities? And, what 'special rights?' The issue in question is giving homosexuals the SAME rights as others, that is, for two persons who wish to be married to be allowed to get married. Nothing 'special rights' about that.
That you choose to base your life decisions on a poorly-written, ancient collection of fairy tales is your business but you needn't rain on everyone's parade.
"Therefore we are refuting the small group of local pastors supporting this bill as they do not represent the majority of main stream Christianity."
Why am I not surprised that they consider themselves the only TrueChristians...?
Hateful fundamentalist bigots like you don't represent mainstream Christianity either, and no one cares if you think homosexuality is a sin. Also, this bill doesn't take rights away from the majority and give special rights to gay people, it gives them the same protections everyone else has. You know this, but you lie about it anyway so you can find an excuse to continue discriminating against people who you hate for no good reason.
Sooo...
A bunch of rich pastors with tax exempt status believe that unfair discrimination of a vulnerable minority of the population is okay. This is simply because of their own delusions, such as the idea that they have a "right" to persecute, demean, and otherwise discriminate against this minority, the idea that scripture grants them this "right" and is legitimate in a court of law, and the idea that legislature taking such a "right" away is the real persecution. They continue to make rather childish empty threats on behalf of their invisible bouncer "God" to promote their fascist, theocratic agendas on those whose only crime was having a different sexual orientation. Oh, did I forget to mention these pastors have tax exempt status?
Where are the Coliseum lions when you need 'em?
@D Laurier
Romans 1:28 refers to a "reprobate mind" in the KJV version, which we all know was written by God Himself under the pseudonym of "King James". The heretical NIV uses the phrase "depraved mind", which makes more sense in modern English and therefore is to be shunned.
You know, I've been thinking of the "persecuted, persecuted, not persecuted" image.
Fundie Christians are a smaller subset (sub sect?) of Christianity, and therefore a minority. Minorities tend to be persecuted from time to time. Then again, I wouldn't say they are really being persecuted in the standard way.
Two, some Christians in the USA (and elsewhere) are persecuted! Yup, that's right. Even that picture of them at the massed prayer/money drive thing includes a whole bunch of persecuted Christians.
Except who is doing the persecuting? It isn't a force outside their religion in most instances... The more powerful Christians often seem to persecute the less powerful ones. "Gimmie Money!" and all that.
"Would Jesus wear a Rolex on his television show?" -Ray Stevens.
And what rights is this bill taking away? It better not be your right to infringe and persecute a minority, because you never had that right in the first place. No one is stopping you from believing that being gay is a sin, but your right doesn't include the right to use the law to act on that belief by disenfranchising them.
@ D Laurier:
What the hell is a "reprobate mind"?
Romans 1:28 (KJV): And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient.

" Therefore we are refuting the small group of local pastors supporting this bill as they do not represent the majority of main stream Christianity."
You can't have it both ways. "Fundamental" evangelicals do NOT represent mainstream Christianity. They are fringe wackos in the opinion of most mainstream Christians.
"it is not an alternative lifestyle"
At least you got one thing right.
fundamental evangelical Christians with a biblical worldview agree homosexuality is an abominable sin according to Romans 1:22-32
Yeah? So what? Who cares?
God will bless or curse this city according to our law and public policy
Funny, the areas with same-sex marriage laws are doing just fine in all respects while the Bible belt is being flushed down the toilet and torn to pieces by tornados.
Does God have bad aim or are you just full of shit?
"We know God will bless or curse this city according to our law and public policy as Proverbs 14:34 states "Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people."
Well I say you have to allow gay marriage or Princess Celestia will curse all of you.
You have a perfect right to disagree with gay marriage. However, you do not have the right to impose your views on everyone else. Homosexuality is mentioned much less in the Bible than many other "sins", but you don't get all up in arms about shellfish or menstruating women, do you?
Not an abominable thing in the present sense of the word.
Check out Toevah HaGoyim in biblical Hebrew.
Vut eveb allowing it to be an abominable thing, so are eating shellfish, pork, getting a haircut. So enough with the cherry picking to suit you personal pet hates. It makes your prjudice all too visible.
If you want to observe the bible as your law, then you must take it all, not preferred sections! Hypocrites.
Too bad God doesn't control our public policy, as it's written in our Constitution that the government can't take a side on religious matters. One day you idiots are going to wake up and realize that.
Not to mention that anti-discrimination laws protect everyone, not just gays, since they say that sexual orientation cannot be a basis for discrimination (regardless of what that orientation actually is).
The majority of people in the USA support NOT discriminating against people who aren't heterosexual, and support giving them equal rights. The majority of the US population is Christian. You, ignorant sociopathic preacher, are in the minority, which is shrinking every year.
Too bad for you.
@Filin De Blanc
Nah, she'll just turn them into stone and make them decorations in her garden.
Stop lying.
Stop trying to play God.
Stop trying to defend hate.
Stop assuming equal rights is "special".
Just fucking stop, already.
@Pioneer
"What are the rights that will be taken away from the majority, exactly? No one ever specifies those."
Some groups in the US are now claiming that they have a right under the 1st amendment to discriminate against others.
We reject the theory that this is an "anti discrimination bill" as the bill takes away the rights of the majority of our citizens
What rights are those? The right to beat them senseless, tie them to fence posts and leave them to freeze to death?
"Some groups in the US are now claiming that they have a right under the 1st amendment to discriminate against others."
Ah yes, the "freedom of religion means that if something is in accord with my religion, the government can't stop me from doing it, ever, no matter how illegal it would otherwise be" crowd.
"the KJV version, which we all know was written by God Himself under the pseudonym of "King James"
-with Buckingham on his lap, saying "Oooh, put in some more abominations!"
Typical fundie behaviour; Examine the Bible under a microscope, take the words apart, twist a few Scriptures, take a few more out of context, all to find proof that homosexuality is the worst evil and exist to destroy society.
Totally ignore the unambiguous, plain words of Jesus that say your salvation relies on feeding the hungry, visiting the sick and the prisoner, giving water to the thirsty.
I wonder how many cups of cold water these pastors have given to a passing tramp in the entrance of their churches?
[We reject the theory that this is an "anti discrimination bill" as the bill takes away the rights of the majority of our citizens and gives special rights and class to a small minority of people. ]
It doesn't grant anyone "special" rights. It takes away your special rights to harrass people.
We reject the theory that this is an "anti discrimination bill" as the bill takes away the rights of the majority of our citizens
Nobody should have the right to persecute others. This is what you're really whining about, isn't it? Now go fuck yourself.
So you want the right to bully, harass, discriminate against, assault and kill a class of people just because you don't like who they have sex with? You people are disgusting and I want you off my planet. Now.
Confused?
