["I am a Lord of the Rings fan! I have read the books three times, and I also read the Hobbit."]
I'm sorry, I had to stop reading at this point. I'm praying that you'll be saved from hell.
I'd like it if God could summon all the bad books into a big pile and we could have a barbeque.

Ahh the mentality of the dark ages and nazism. We don't like it, let's burn it. So are witches back on the fire again as well? You live in fear and I'm sorry about that, but the terror you hold in your heart about fictional books stems from your own fictional bible. There are just as many ferocious creatures in your book, only someone tells you that they are actually real.
For the record, J.R.R. Tolkien was a devout Catholic. Though I'm sure a lot of fundies would blast him for that too, what with Catholicism being the devil's Christianity and all, or something.
In Germany there is a proverb:
"Them who begin with burning of books end up burning men"
It was coined in the 20's.
'nuff said.....
watch what you wish for, the burning of Bibles and other religious works would put sooo much carbon in the air!
Talk about global warming!
Wasn't LOTR written as a Christian analogy?
...by a practicing Catholic, no less?
...I wonder how sinful Narnia is, then?
Oh, Taigum. I see through your little charade. You are not devout. You are just dumb and lazy and hate doing book reports.
Wouldn't it be great if the great JuJu in the sky could save us from all of that tiresome reading?

Me too - if you promise to jump right on the bonfire with them, dipshit, preferably holding several copies of the bible soaked in gasoline.
Time to bring out the marshmallows!!

Is there a sociological name for the condition where someone is as mortally afraid of words, or even thoughts, as any conceptual threat they might convey? It seems to happen an awful lot, especially to fundies.
The Lord of the Rings is anti-christian? The whole series is chock full of biblical references. So much so, that it could almost be considered Christian fiction. I mean, look at it: Gandalf dies, and comes back more powerful and robed in pure white. The whole third book is called "The Return of the King" (what does that sound like,) and Aragorn has to take his place as king of mankind and lead the world to victory against a character that might as well be Satan. (Well, Sauron isn't quite Satan. That's Morgoth. But that's getting pretty deep into the Tolkien mythos.) Hell, Aragorn even passes through the 'realm of the dead' and ends up freeing the dead from their curse. If that isn't a Jesus allegory, I don't know what is. (Don't bring up Aslan from the Chronicles of Narnia. That's not allegory, that's just Jesus with a different name. :P )
I simply LOVED the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I am a language nerd. Mr Tolkien really had a way with the English language, about as good as Mr Pratchett.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy was no match, whatsoever, to read. I still have a hard time reading the Bible from cover to cover. All those god-approved deaths kind of put me off the Bible.
I am a staunch anti-death-penalty person. I believe that each person has the untouchable right to his and her life, liberty, and - what the hell - pursuit of happiness.
THAT is pro-life, in my book.
Burning books is the first nail in the coffin of Democracy.
so, you wish that god could summon all the bad books for a barbecue? are you implying that your god is insufficiently powerful to do this? or that he is powerful enough to do so and chooses not to? if it is the latter, your wish attempts to direct the will of god. this all sounds like commie mutant traitor talk to me
Not that I condone book burning but...
Lo, did God summon all the copies of the Twilight series to a single pile and hand over a lighter.
"if God could"? Are you saying your god is not omnipotent?
If God wanted to do it, he'd certainly already done it.
Don't your god like stories about the struggle of Good vs Evil in all of us?
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
