Rabbi Elyakim Levanon says that Israeli soldiers should not have to hear women sing at military events:
"The [[Israeli]] army’s insistence on men hearing women sing is such a serious attack on religious freedom, according to one prominent far-right rabbi, that “we’re close to a situation in which we will have to tell soldiers, ‘You have to leave such events even if a firing squad is set up outside, which will fire on and kill you.’”

The OP is just taking advantage of his political position. You see the Likud party would be incapable of forming a government in the Kenesset if they did not indulge people like Rabb Levanon here. The result is that the Israeli government has been looking the other way towards these theocrats. If they stood up to them there's be a vote of no contest in the Kenesset and they'd be out of power.
So why doesn't Labour do anything about it? Well, they really haven't had their act together since the 1990s and for various reasons they haven't been able to produce an "Obama like" leader that can rally Israel's dispirited left wing.
You have to leave such events even if a firing squad is set up outside, which will fire on and kill you.
[Israeli soldier thinking to himself]
Hear women sing, leave and get shot, hear women sing, leave and get shot, hear women sing, leave and get shot...
Shit, I dunno what to do.

This sounds somehow familiar but I just can't put my finger on it. Bah, I don't know. Maybe the Catholic Church can help me figure it out.
Maybe this rabbi should be thinking about how to fight muslim extremists instead of crippling his own army with his own extremism.
Indeed. It makes me think of the way Stalin weakened the Red Army just before it was needed to defend the USSR from Hitler, by purging it of many of its most capable officers.
So, it's better to be killed than to hear women sing?
I don't understand this mindset, I really don't.
How the HELL is this an attack on religious freedom?!
Considering that there are very few misogynistic atheists, and all of the aforementioned simply cannot get laid, I am beginning to think that it is religion that causes sexism. We have to do away with it before minority groups and women will ever be equals, I'm afraid.
We might have to hear a female voice = we're all going to be martyred for our religious belief?
You'd think that Jews would just be happy to have that not be happening, for a change - instead of apparently fanatsising about persecution.
Huh? What's the problem with hearing women sing?
You do realize that the Sirens are mythological creatures, right?
It would depend on the women singing. Somebody with a really screechy irritating voice like Ethel Merman, Whitney Huston, Barbra Streisand -- yeah, I'd rather face a firing squad than listen to much of that.
Cruel and unusual punishment.

Whose religious freedoms would that be, rabbi? As I understand it, the extremely orthodox are exempt from military duty, prefering prayer to actually doing service for their country.
When you're actually serving, maybe you'll have a case. Until then, STFU.
This is an attack on religion the same way letting women use their Medicaid to pay for contraception. It's not an attack at all, but is an example of religion not being allowed to control the lives of everyone, even if they don't belong to that religion. Christians in America have basically been coddeled for over 250 years and now perceive any instance of them not being allowed to do whatever they want to everyone as persecution. If they ever bothered to see what real persecution is like they should go check out and Indian Reservation and see what they did to the indigenous peoples. But for Jews to do this, to claim persecution and attack on their faith by their own government giving people liberty to decide what kind of music they listen to, is insulting as it is insane. There are Jews still alive today who remember the Holocaust, who remember what a real attack on a religion and an entire people is like. Honestly I want one Holocaust survivor to tell these rabid rabbis that they are just as bad as the Nazis.
God, the almighty creator of the universe;
He who created trillions and trillions of galaxies, all full of trillions and trillions of stars;
He who created the wonders of gravity, of time, and of space;
He, the creator of life itself;
He, the eternal, the omnipotent, all seeing, all knowing:
A singing woman really pisses him off.
Yeah sure.
Get a life, Rabbi.
Just go "sing him a new song" (he hates oldies) and slaughter a few goats for him like your silly book says. He really needs it.
WOO!!! JEWISH FUNDIES!
Seriously though, wtf is wrong with hearing women sing? And a Jewish person should especially know that hearing a woman sing is not an attack on religious freedom. In light of, you know, that biggest attack on religious freedom ever . . . the Holocaust.
Come on, rabbi. I know you're coming from a long, long longlonglonglong tradition of believing everyone is out to get you for your religion and that's a comfortable position and very hard to leave, but you're the majority for the first time since Rome fell. The lachrymose school of historiography and everything aside, you can't actually
This is actually the only thing I have ever 'disliked Jews' for. This, right here. Milking the martyrdom complex since two or three thousand BCE. It's one thing when we're talking about real problems, but when First World Problems get put in the same mold it's just stupid. Also, objecting to the other Jews persecuting you for your religion probably don't work so good, mon.
@Philbert: Seriously? You're hating on Ethel Merman for being screechy? I haven't heard her sing that much, but the most clear memory I have of it she's singing contralto. Also, she reminds me of my granny, so nuts to you.
"Don't wanna look at women...Don't wanna hear women...
Haredis are a bunch of closet cases!"
Don't lump us gays in with these assholes, Spuki. We as a rule, get along with women better than these misogynistic pricks. Though if it was Rebecca Black, I'd choose the firing squad for entirely secular reasons.
@TWoozl
Please forgive me for that. It was none of my intention. I also am in no way equating "fear/hate of women" with being gay.
If it came out that way, I goofed.
I'm just floored at how the very sight, sound & presence of women & girls literally SCARES them! No photos, no recordings, no voices, nothing!
It is so pathologically bizarre! WHAT THE HECK'S WRONG WITH THESE GUYS?!!!
Confused?
