[about the male Central Park Zoo penguins who raised a baby penguin named Tango together]
The book doesn't tell the whole story. Silo the "gay" penguin eventually left Roy for a female named Scrappy. Silo is now happily coupled with a female, which is so heartening b/c it proves that homosexuality can indeed be cured!
As for Tango, she grew up and coupled with a female penguin, which shows how harmful homosexual adoption can be to children. Tango had none of the genes of her adopted parents, but was raised in a homosexual environment and so became a homosexual herself. Homosexuality does not occur naturally, it must ultimately be a choice on the part of the individual. If it occurred naturally in the gene pool, then it would pass away within one generation since homosexuals are incapable of reproducing.

how do we know that these penguins are coupled happily?
In my experiences, relationships are hellish pits of no escape
Penguins pretty regularly change mates. It's surprising that Silo and Roy stayed together as long as they did. This doesn't mean that homosexuality can be cured; it means that Silo is bisexual, or just doesn't give a damn.
Same-sex couplings happen a LOT in penguins, IIRC, so Tango may very well have coupled with a female, but citation is needed here.
"Silo the "gay" penguin eventually left Roy for a female named Scrappy."
So Silo is bisexual.
"Silo is now happily coupled with a female, which is so heartening b/c it proves that homosexuality can indeed be cured!"
Cured? So you mean Silo went and saw a therapist or took a pill before he went with Scrappy? Cite your sources.
Yes, of course, penguins are the perfect model for human childhood behavior, which shows how harmful it is for a child to be raised by a fucking ignoramus.
"Silo is now happily coupled with a female, which is so heartening b/c it proves that homosexuality can indeed be cured! "
Exodus International has a penguin branch?

You realize that penguins are known for being rather indiscriminate when it comes to choosing sexual parters, don't you?

See what I mean.

I think you fail to see the evolutionary advantage of having a certain percentage of the population that doesn't reproduce.
Writing fiction to support your own preconceived notions of reality...the Bible authors would be proud!
Edit: Holy #$@#, he isn't lying for Jesus! I...I don't know how to feel right now...
"but was raised in a homosexual environment and so became a homosexual herself."
They're penguins FFS.
"Silo is now happily coupled with a female, which is so heartening b/c it proves that homosexuality can indeed be cured!"
Yeah...
"Tango, she grew up and coupled with a female penguin,"
There is hope yet that heterosexuality can be cured too!
:D
Okay, James, so how did Silo and Roy become gay?
They were probably raised by straight penguin parents, right?
So, this shows that being raised by straight parents also carries a chance that the child will be gay. If this is the case, why insist that only straight people be allowed to parent?
You then claim homosexuality can be 'cured'.
If that's true, and we allow gays to adopt/ breed and they inadvertently raise a gay kid, we can just cure the kid.
So, what's your problem?
Actually, what this Fundie says is true (homophobic bigotry aside). Indeed, the penguins did break up. But there have been many documented instances of homosexuality in penguins, and penguins are also quite prone to swapping mates. This is nothing out of the ordinary.

I know it's Fox's site, don't shoot me! =P
There's a fly in your ointment Jim. The urge to reproduce and the expression of affection (in humans and other animals) and dominance (in animals including humans) are separate things. Here Jim, this will blow your mind.
I have a group of lesbian friends and guess what? They all have kids. Yep. Lesbians have kids just like heterosexual women.
You know what's even stranger? I know several homosexual men who are fathers! Can you believe it? Apparently their sperm works fine.
But here's the real shocker. Most animals (including humans) have homosexual relations. So? Wouldn't it be reasonable to assume that homosexuality is perfectly natural?
Really, because the New York Post says nothing about this. In fact according to a June 12, 2008 article
THE Central Park Zoo has become the No. 1 hot spot for gay birds. Ten years ago, Roy and Silo made history as the zoo's first same-sex penguin couple by cohabitating and refusing female companionship. Their historic coming-out opened the floodgates. In Faye Flam's new book, "The Score," curator John Rowden reveals, "We currently have a number of [penguin] same-sex pairs." And they aren't the only gay birds in the park - Flam writes there are plenty of homosexual geese and ducks also hooking up.
Are you trying to say it's contagious?
"Tango had none of the genes of her adopted parents"
Then just exactly, how did she become a penguin?? Maybe she's a missing link??
Apparently one of the penguigns did, at some point, pair up with a female. But Roy never got with a female. And Silo 'broke up' with Scrappy in 2006. So apparently one is bisexual and one prefers the men.
Anyway there are still many penguins who prefer to pair up with a bird of the same sex.
"If it occurred naturally in the gene pool, then it would pass away within one generation since homosexuals are incapable of reproducing."
Sure, that makes sense. Just like there's no such thing as a gfenetic componenet to all those sterile worker-bees, because if it occured naturally in the gene pool it would pass away within one generation. It's just a wicked choice of those individual God-hating worker bees.
Some genetic traits skip generation, such as hair color. Many genetic diseases are contracted from a parent who carries the defective gene, but isn't actually sick. Also, a sick parent can have a completely healthy child. And then, some conditions, good and bad alike, can arise seemingly spontaneously - we're learning more about their causes as research goes on. That is, assuming funding isn't cut to prevent awful blasphemy...
I don't see why even proponents of same-sex marriage are so worried about whether or not animals are engaging in homosexual activity. Sure, it proves homosexuality is natural, but the way this guy is talking, I would assume he was talking about people [if he didn't say penguins.]
BISEXUALITY! And it's not cured, stupid.
Most homosexuals are brought up by heterosexual parents, asshole.
Homosexual people share genes with their heterosexual siblings, stupid! If the gay person is assisting with the upbringing of his sister's kids, he is also assisting with the survival of his genes.
Homosexuals aren't sterile; they can reproduce the same way anyone else can. Sure, they may not be attracted to a person of the opposite gender, but if Edwardian era English women could "close their eyes and think of Britain" so can gay people. There is also IVF, and surrogate mothers.
My second cousin is adopted from South America; she shares no genes with her parents. She's a well-adjusted productive member of society, and a lovely person.
That just means Silo is bi and had a bad breakup with Roy.
Also, you are assuming being gay is bad, but then again, no fundie has given a good reason why homosexuality should be disallowed other than "this old book told me".
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
