The character of Gandalf is presented as a trustworthy, fatherly, heroic, warrior on the on the side of good...but when he fights "evil" wizards, he is using the same means they are - he is using magic that God calls 'abomination': [insert some Bible verses]... God says that all wizards are an abomination to Him...LOTR claims that some wizards are good. I'm going with God on this one.

This will give me an excuse to play the wizard on Gauntlet and steal all the food(or shoot it) when I don't need it.
Haha, barbarian, too slow!
LOTR takes place in an imaginary world where your god not only doesn't exist, but has never been heard of, and nowhere is magic condemned as inherently evil - LOTR doesn't say shit about the real universe, and Tolkien generally got pissed off whenever people said that it did.
Amen to that, Brain_In_A_Jar,,,,, or does Jael perhaps think LOTR is an alternative history? It's a fantasy tale!!! Sheesh.

By all means, then, go with God. As long as you just go.

I'm betting you never read the books - just saw the movies.
Very likely - if you read the books, you notice that Gandalf very rarely resorts to magic, and is invariably loath to do so when he does.
Don't tell me the Bible slashers and the LOTR slashers have finally gotten together for an ultimate AU crossover fanfic! Next thing we know there will be flame wars about whether Legolas/Gabriel is the ultimate pairing (they're just so pretty with all that blond hair), and for the love of all that is sane don't let the Lucifer/God slashers anywhere near the Aragorn fans when they find out that no one other that the Almighty himself is good enough for the King!
gee, try reading the Simmilarion (?spelling) and learn just who and what Gandalf was.
As I understood it (read it when I was 15) he was esentially an angel sent by God to help fight the great evil that was sauron.
By the way, you do realize that LOTR is a work of fiction ?
But Wizards in the Middle-Earth are more like Angels/Demigods. If YHWH existed in that world Wizards like Gandalf would be his holiest worshipers.
I know, YHWH is no where NEARLY as benevolent as Eru Ilúvatar is, but the point is ALMOST valid.
So afraid of the fictional world.
Just deal with with the competition, it's that free market you fundies always claim you love to compete in.
Besides
Have you seen Lord Of The Ring churchs?
Gandalf Temple High? Hobbits Tabernacle of 'Yeah We're Short'?
I've noticed a fair bit of Gollum behavior in modern Evangalism.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
