Not only is he breaking the law, but he is also disresecting all Americans who honor the American Flag and who have fought so hard for what it stands for. A petition is being formed to prosecute Barack Obama and disqualify him as a presidential candidate.

Title 36, U.S. Code
Section 301. National anthem

(a) Designation. - The composition consisting of the words and music known as the Star-Spangled Banner is the national anthem.
(b) Conduct During Playing. - During a rendition of the national anthem -
* (1) when the flag is displayed -
** (A) all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart;
** (B) men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold the headdress at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart; and
** (C) individuals in uniform should give the military salute at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until the last note; and
* (2) when the flag is not displayed, all present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed.

The key word here is SHOULD.

Not "must". Not "shall". SHOULD.

Honor your COUNTRY, not a symbol.

Trouble is, a lot of people have such a total lack of social awareness that they have great difficulty feeling any kind of affiliation with something that isn't tangible and familiar. A monarch is really, for example, a physical metaphor for their country; in some cases, they're treated as synonymous. Monarch == country. There's a certain kind of person, more common in previous centuries and primitive societies today, who, if you started talking to them about "the people", "the state" or the "rights of man" will simply look at you in polite incomprehension. A king, on the other hand, is something they can connect with right away; "hey, he's just another guy like me, I could probably have a drink with him down the pub if he wasn't so obviously above me with all those shiny clothes, seems a decent sort, if he was in a battle with the filthy cheese-eaters from the next valley I'd definitely stand by him". And when you enforce the metaphor so strongly that an attack on some unheard-of hamlet nobody cares about or ever goes to on the opposite side of the country is almost literally equivalent to someone physically attacking your king, that person who comes through the village every few years with all his fancy gear and makes you feel honoured and part of some larger family of which he is the beloved head, you're going to find it a lot easier to drum up a loyal army.

You'd think first world countries in the 21st century would have advanced beyond the need for such crude physical symbolism, and the crazy scandals it occasionally encourages out of sheer dogmatism, but it's amazing how primitive some people can be. For a surprising number of people, even today, a flag or a king or even a handful of native soil isn't just a reminder of their principles or their people, it isn't even a metaphor, it really, physically is those things.

I have been wondering, will Dubya be prosecutable for his crimes once he no longer is presidunce? I ask this because I remember our own Jacques "Super Liar" Chirac managing to grant himself an amnesty for the financial scandals he was suspected of being involved into before leaving the presidency...
