gays have the same rights as everyone else. you have the right to marry a female, thats not taken from you because you choose to be gay. there is no such thing as getting married to a guy here. just like you cannot get him pregnant, it just was not designed for two men, and was never intended for two men. why should we have to modify a tradition to fit your desire to marry?

Er...
Your right. We should not have gay marriage.
We should merely have a register which gay people sign so that they gain the befits of cohabitation laws to solve property and court disputes in the demise of one without having to resolve it via wills and indeed tedious and unnecessary lawyers which waste state money...
OH WAIT! Gay people have been getting "married". Its just that their marriage is not legal in the eyes of the law when it comes down to property and wills and powers of attorney. The new rules will give them that. They can achieve the same liberty through lawyers as it is.
Yes, because marriage has never been modified. In fact - you still can't marry between races. Oh, wait... No, you're just full of crap.
Yes, they chose to be gay. Just like you chose to be straight *sigh*
Anyone notice how most fundies ignore L, B and T people most of the time? Its always "teh gays"
Noooooo! Mixing my beloved furry fandom with that one anti-gay argument that really pisses me off! My braiiiiiin!
Actually, statistically about 7% of furries list themselves as conservative.
Anywhoo! No this is a retarded argument for several reasons:
1. Saying a gay person has the same right to marry a woman is like saying a black person in the 1930's had the same rights as a white person because he was free to marry another member of the same race, just like white people. Even if it's technically equal, it's... well not.
2. Providing actual equality won't make this argument unfair, because by your own reasoning you will then have the same right to marry another man. But just like the gay person and marrying a woman, you will simply choose not to.
Thanks for playing!
Why should we modify tradition to let black kids into white schools? Why should we modify tradition to let women vote? Why should we modify tradition to allow blacks and whites to intermarry? Why should we modify tradition by not having slaves?
Your argument is a tired one, but a very Christian one, sadly.
@IanC
That ticks me off too.
" there is no such thing as getting married to a guy here."
So who do women marry? At least this guy apparently supports lesbian marriage.
"you have the right to marry a female"
You could just as easily call gay marriage bans illegal on gender discrimination grounds- If women are allowed to marry men, why don't men have that right?
Look we all know what the true purpose of marriage is, that is to transfer ownership of a woman from her father to her husband.
Anything else is an abomination.
lol Furtopia...
Yeah, and when only whites could marry whites and blacks could marry blacks that was a tradition. Why was that changed?? Black people could marry anyone of their own race, just like white people. They had to be segregated from whites, just as whites were segregated from blacks. So what was the big deal?
Right. In the 10th century marriage was "not designed" for romantic love, it was designed for political purposes. In the 1800s, it was "not designed" for men and women who were equals. In the 1940s, it was "not designed" for people of different races. The ideals of marriage have changed throught history, and whether some asshat conservative furry of all things likes it or not, they're going to change again.
Traditions change over the years, asshat, and everyone deserves equal rights for marriage, regardless of gender.
Let me point out a number of reasons:
a)even if they can marry somebody of the opposite sex, they don't want to marry them. People marry out of love or of convenience, but with the wish of having a meaningful relationship with that somebody. If they don't feel attracted to that person, the marriage is meaningless. Following your logic, we should still stick to forced marriages.
b)People don't choose to be gay. Nobody chooses to feel somebody that nature has not programmed you to for no good reason. Moreover, if they "chose" to be gay, they wouldn't demand the right to marry, because it would mean that they still feel attracted to women, only that they take men lovers as a temporal measure.
c)Following your logic, people over 55 or sterile shouldn't marry either.
D)Marriage tradition has been modified thousands times. See what I said in a, talking about forced marriages.
Confused?
