For older kids, this might be ok. But for our 4 year old we saw some episodes we did not feel comfortable having our child watch. Arthur (the program) tends to occasionally get on a soapbox on current issues. One episode I saw made those not in favor of "Harry Potter" type books look like fools: as if we were back in the day of book burnings and witch hunting. As one who firmly believes Potter's teachings are not in line with Scriptural principles, it comes as a slap in the face. I don't want my child being

The quote appears to be cut off.
And fundamentalists are exactly the sort who would burn books if they could. Just listen to the things they say about whatever series are popular at the time. Harry Potter, for instance. They long for the days when they could simply murder anyone who disagreed with them, and are working hard on dragging the world back to that more barbaric time.
A witch get them at the end there?
Or was it "I don't want my child being
Tim"
"as if we were back in the day of book burnings and witch hunting."
Some of you fuckin well never left those times, some of you call it that good ole time religion. Some of you voted for people who are given Witch protection prayers and believe in demon possession. You'd be burning or hanging people for that now if you could.
"working hard on dragging the world back to that more barbaric time."
Damn straight, you can hear death threats from these peoples leaders daily.
If it was up to me I get a

Because many of that ilk ARE like that and pine for those days
"Potter's teachings" are all about friendship, and helping each other, and interpersonal relationships. the magic bits are there as stage dressing, and mainly introduce huge great big holes in the plot because Rowling never built that side of her world properly.
(did you know Rubeus Hagrid was an expert in protecting his mind from being read by magic? no? neither did JKR when she wrote book 1, but he must've been, because otherwise one subplot concerning a card game and a dragon's egg would've been rendered pointless by magical mind reading. there's a fanfic where he teaches Harry his skills in this field, and it is hilarious. )
I don't want my child being
Oooh, cliffhanger!
Oh and you're not the ones who want to ban books from libraries? You're not the ones telling everyone to avoid Harry Potter books because they supposedly teach witchcraft and boycotting a movie because it has a gay character?
FFS, if you and your kid can't handle a harmless cartoon like Arthur, then you might as well make them live in your basement forever because they're going to be too sheltered to live in the real world.

Total lack of self awareness award.
Hold that thought, dearie.
And if a child's program can make you "look like fools", it's time to take a good hard look at yourself and your positions.
The Harry Potter books are not for four-year-olds. They are for kids around Harry's age (for each book).
If you don't like the days of book burnings and witch hunting, don't go there.
The Potter books are more or less Christian allegories, nincompoop.
"I don't want my kid being brainwashed with some of the producer's ideas of reality"
But brainwashed with your idea of religion is fine and dandy?
My god, when fuckin' Arthur is too much for you to take...
@Alencon
It's the old "everything is a religion" mindset in action.
>Always good fun to see what they make of TV - shame Preacher and Lucifer aren't on their list
Come to think of it, I'm sort of surprised that One Million Sock Puppets didn't lose their shit over Preacher.
But seriously folks, they're never going to let Harry Potter go, are they?
Calling Harry Potter evil is the same as witch torture/burning, it has gone back to those days. Harry Potter should've never been released it America (hey the name of book 1), one of the worst fundy countries.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
