Yes, exactly what we need, more children from homes that obviously couldn't support them at the time working minimum wage jobs or joining the military just to die in some dusty hellhole halfway across the globe. Or, you know, being forced to turn to a life of crime. Never mind that each one of those children will be a drain on taxes before they start paying back. AND they'll need their own social security if they ever get old.

But what about all the times girls could have been on their back getting pumped to make babies! Every year they could push out a baby or two.

It's funny that this comes up now. I'm currently reading the book "Freakonomics" by Levitt and Dubner, and it has quite a few interesting things to say along these lines.
The lost children Hess is lamenting would likely have been born to low-income families who didn't want them and couldn't afford to care for them. Statistics say that it's likely that many of them would grow up to become criminals--creating a drain, not a benefit, to the country.
You may recall the steady increase in violent crime throughout the 90's that suddenly abated. There are a number of reasons for the turnaround, but not least among them was the legalization of abortion twenty years earlier--many of the children that would have been born into poverty and would grow up to become dangerous criminals...didn't.
How about 'lots of them would have died from neglegience and abuse'? Why do you think women have abortion in the first place? It's because they're not ready for a child, and a child without a proper environment to grow in...why, it's abuse to give birth!
Sure, you can have your wild speculation about what could have been and clearly wasn't. However, that's missing out on the most important point of all--abortions = potential for dead baby jokes:

Think about this : From 1988 to 2008,
There a hell of a lot of things we will never know. We'll never know what would have happened if Henry VIII had had a son that survived, leaving Mary I and Elizabeth I out of the succession, which in turn would not have put James I on the throne after her. And, without that, there wouldn't be a true, real, inerrant bible for fundies to worship.
But, you know what? We will never know. Ever. Because life and death happen and that's the way it goes.
Think of all the unwanted kids committing crimes and creating another waves of unwanted kids. Think of all the SUV driving, over-consuming Americans we'd have. Think of all the extra citizens we'd have to provide services and/or prison space for.
Think of Hess minding his own damn business. Hmm. Can't imagine that.
- There's already unemployment, you really think these unwanted kids would be more employable than the guys living on the street?
- They'd probably be more of a drain than a contribution. Instead of being aborted they'd just be shoved into foster care, which is not exactly the best place to grow up
- Oh your so pro life until they're born, then they can go off and die in a foreign land to save the oil barons.

Unfortunately for you, if those fetuses were left unaborted they would:
1) Drain the SS (which, according to a recent lecture by Principal at Drake University, IA, would collapse between 2011 and 2015).
2) Worsen the current and future economic crisis.
3) Create an incredible strain on the already fucked up food supply.
4) Heighten unemployment in the US.
5) Get killed in the Gulf wars.
6) Deepen the aging crisis by 2040.
Not to be selfish or anything, but I am born in 1988, I see the problems that I have to face. The young men and women of today already have a lot of trouble even saving up for a house, let alone a retirement fund. I can't imagine how much worse it would be if millions more were in the system.
OK, I'll bite. How many children were killed in those 15 years? Here's a hint: they are not children until after they are born. To terminate a pregnancy is not infanticide.
And if it was, god would heartily approve of it, I'm sure.

And it's not even like the abortions would never have happened were it still illegal. Nearly all of those abortions would still have taken place; however, they would have been done in the back alley, without sterile equipment or the benefit of a trained practicioner. Which means rather than 'saving' the clumps of undifferentiated cells, your anti-abortion policy would actually murder thousands upon thousands of poor women.
