Why was slavery allowed? It was a way to repay debtors, a good many of the slaves were willing.

"a good many of the slaves were willing"
Slavery- Noun- the state of being under the control of another person.
The dictionary disagrees buddy.
And by "a good many" he means to say 0.0000001% of slaves, ever.
Any other atrocities you'd like to try to justify, or is that it?
These sorts of people are called indentured servants.
As to why the Bible says "slave", I don't know. Perhaps there isn't a phrase in Hebrew for "indentured servant", or the phrase hadn't been invented when the Bible was first translated into English.
I'm not suggesting that Badfish is trying to use this to justify actual slavery, but there are many that would, and his comment is incredibly naive.
I'm SO certain they were "willing" to get beaten whenever their asshole master wanted; beaten so badly they were within days of dying. That would be so much fun. Or not.
"Willing" slave? Right.
Since s sounds like such a nice relationship why don't you be my "willing" slave, and I'll treat Ou just like the OT says I can. You OK with that?
I won't beat you much, although the bible doesn't say that I can't beat you every day, just that you can't die in a day or two...
So, the bit where you have to let certain slaves go, but you can keep their wife and kid, that was voluntary?
Gonna just say I have the doubts.
Confused?
