Yes, there are people who believe in Allah, who believe in Yaweh, and who believe in many. People who believe in God(WASP), 20% of the population. Aren´t you suprised now that it was added only in the fifties?
"Compromise," means finding common, mutually acceptable ground between two viewpoints.
When you force others to comply with your personal beliefs, this is not "common ground," this is "your ground."
And why should anyone respect your beliefs if you refuse to respect theirs?
The great thing is that his message has an edit that reads, and I quote, "Last edited by Greek American people : Yesterday at 1:23 AM. Reason: error".
What the hell was so egregious that he managed to notice it?
That wouldn't be a compromise. A compromise would be changing "Under God" to whatever deity (or lack thereof) the individual chooses.
"...one nation, under Allah, indivisible..."
"...one nation, under Buddah, indivisible..."
"...one nation, under Odin, indivisible..."
or, my personal favorite,
"...one nation, indivisible..."
I don't like the pledge because nationalism has no place in the modern world. The human species needs to focus on globalism, not pledging loyalty to one particular nation, and thus dividing themselves.
And there's a difference between respect/compromise and conformity. Duh.
Because Jesus said that people should not swear by/on anything. And swearing by things you don't believe in makes your pledge very weak. You wouldn't trust me to keep my promise if all that stood between me and breaking my vow, made on a Kenshin manga, was the wrath of some imaginary samurai?
1. The White House holds a Christmas celebration. Every year.
2. Many businesses close on Christmas, forcing a lot of people to miss out on hours they may need.
3. Some states have anti-blasphemy laws.
4. In God We Trust on our money.
5. "Under God" was added to the Pledge of Allegiance back in the fifties.
this is why im proud to be an australian, far less idiotic fundys trying to put christian propaganda on our money, pledge and constitution, not to mention the fact that we have nothing against atheist polititians
And yet this idiot hasn't thought that before the 50s, there was no "under God"
It seems that most of them can't even envisage anything existing before they were born, so hoping they can think back as far as sixty-odd years ago is - sadly - a waste of time...
Sure, America has more churches than McDonalds, every single president in US history was Christian, and nutcases like you are constantly trying to make your beliefs into law but WON'T SOMEONE THINK OF THE POOR OPPRESSED MARGINALIZED CHRISTIANS?!
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
