Abortion kills the person who was started/conceived.
Abortion would have killed you if it was applied before you were born.

Abortion never does anything good for a woman.
Except maybe save her life. Oh, wait, fundies think women's lives are worthless if they're not pumping out babies.
Abortion can lead to many problems including mental.
Not if no one is screaming "You're a murderer, you're going to hell, Jesus doesn't love you any more" at a frightened fundie teenager.
No one has told you that women are in more danger from giving birth than from legal abortion I guess.
Last I heard, 287 pregnancies per 100,000 lead to maternal death in the US. I'm betting those women wouldn't die if they had abortions instead.
In other words, go fuck yourself with something sharp.
I agree with the second point but the rest are rather repetitive. Well, the last is rather imprecise, for abortion is more or less legal in most parts of the world. And, regarding the possible effects, the same should apply following your logic, if a woman has a miscarriage(much more, since the effect is not sought), and honestly, even though one goes through a state of sadness, it doesn´t last long. Moreover, if it did, taking into account that all women who have children have gone through it at least once in their fertile lives, the world should have finished by now.
"Abortion kills the person who was started/conceived."
No, what is aborted is not a person. Months later, it MIGHT have BECOME a person.
"Abortion would have killed you if it was applied before you were born."
I would not have existed.
"Abortion never does anything good for a woman."
Absolutely false. Sometimes is saves her life. Sometimes it prevents serious injury. Sometimes it prevents serious psychological damage. Sometimes it prevents serious life-long family discord. Sometimes it allows a girl to finish school and become a stable member of society. Etc. Etc. Etc.
"Abortion does not help."
Please see above.
"Abortion can lead to many problems including mental."
"mental?" Mental isn't a problem. It's true some women have some psychological issues after an abortion, but so do those who carry their pregnancies to term.
Carrying a pregnancy to term is much more dangerous than a legal, medical abortion.
"Abortion is a nice way to say murder."
No, murder is the unjustified termination of a human being. What is aborted in an abortion is not a human being.
"Abortion after birth is called murder in most societies."
OK. You see, after birth, it's a human being, before birth it is not.
Abortion does not help.
It does help when a woman would otherwise die or be seriously financially injured by the child's birth.
1) Yes.
2) If I had been aborted, we wouldn't be having this conversation, and NEITHER OF US WOULD CARE.
3) Yes, it does. It frees the woman from the burden of a child she does not want.
4) It also frees the child from having to deal with being unwanted and all of the problems that come of that.
5) So does birth. Post-partum depression anyone? It has to do with shame, either way, and shame isn't expected or permanent.
6) No, it isn't.
7) Abortion by definition cannot happen after birth.
Abortion is what you will never have to worry about having because I bet you are male, creep! Abortion allows a woman to have control over her own body instead of you, your government or your church(rankles the shit out of you doesn't it)!
Abortion kills the person who was started/conceived. If by "person" you mean "zygote," "embryo," or "fetus."
Abortion would have killed you if it was applied before you were born. BZZZT. Eight years before I was born, my mother had an abortion. Had she not, she and child would have lived in grinding poverty; she would never have met my father; and even if she had, Child the First would have showed her that pregnancy was a miserable experience she did not want to repeat. Abortion applied before I was born = the chance for me to be born. Yay abortion!
Abortion never does anything good for a woman. Except save her life, her health, her sanity, and/or her future.
Abortion does not help. It does if being pregnant is the source of all the problems.
Abortion can lead to many problems including mental. So can childbirth. So can driving a car. So can getting out of bed in the morning. Yet no one suggests we don't do these things.
Abortion is a nice way to say murder. Not in most jurisdictions.
Abortion after birth is called murder in most societies. Unless it's called capital punishment.
"Abortion kills the person who was started/conceived."
It is not considered a person
"Abortion would have killed you if it was applied before you were born."
Well DUH!
"Abortion never does anything good for a woman."
Situational. You're applying a blanket judgement.
"Abortion does not help."
It depends on the situation.
"Abortion can lead to many problems including mental."
SO can religion, and that's more likely. And abortion clinics generally don't carry out the abortion if the woman shows ANY doubts.
"Abortion is a nice way to say murder."
No, it's not. It's a word that means termination of an unwanted pregnancy. It's only murder if it's recognised as a person. And embryo isn't. Also, INQUISITION and SMITE are words used by Christianity for muder. The same way JIHAD is used by Islam for murder.
"Abortion after birth is called murder in most societies."
No, because abortion doesn't apply after birth.
Please buy yourself a dictionary. You seriously need one.
Sure helped me. I'm working on a Ph.D. I never would have had, living in a state I couldn't live in if I had to worry about moving too far away from "dad," and not having to take a kid for visits with an ex-hub who's made blaming me for everything bad that's ever happened his vocation. Abortion is a nice way to say "It's my body and my life."
"Last I heard, 287 pregnancies per 100,000 lead to maternal death in the US. I'm betting those women wouldn't die if they had abortions instead."
Xander, come on. These were women who did not have abortions; who were obviously carrying their babies to term. In any case, the maternal death rate is high in the US where pregnancy is seen as a disease and medical intervention into healthy births cause most of the problems. (A couple years ago the number one cause of maternal death in the US was complications from episiotomy.)
Also, in Ireland, where fetuses have constitutional rights, maternal deaths are much lower. In countries where midwivery is the norm and medical birth the exception, maternal death rates are lower.
Still, maternal death rates are not a valid argument against his comment that abortion never helps women, because you aren't talking about women who sought abortion. You're effectively saying that all pregnancies should be aborted because some women will die if they carry, and we don't know which they will be. Pretty silly.
Abortion kills the person who was started/conceived
Abortion terminates the growth of cells during pregnancy.
Abortion would have killed you if it was applied before you were born.
Contraception would definitely 'kill' you before you were born
Abortion never does anything good for a woman.
Unless you're a woman, then shut up.
Abortion does not help.
Help what?
Abortion can lead to many problems including mental.
As much as forcing women to become mothers before they are ready.
Abortion is a nice way to say murder.
Murder is killing a person. The embryo is not exactly a person.
Abortion after birth is called murder in most societies.
Abortion can only happen before birth, not after. You are again confusing the concepts of murder and abortion deliberately.
Forced pregnancy destroys the life of one person who could think, feel, and act for themself.
Forced Pregnancy would ruin your life, too, if it happened to you.
Forced pregnancy never does anything good for a woman.
Forced Pregancy does not help.
Forced Pregnancy can lead to many problems, including mental.
Pro-life is a nice way to say Pro-Forced Pregnancy.
Forced Pregnancy is considered barbaric and a violation of human rights in most countries.
To Papabear, TDR, Lunalelle, Pix, SakuraPassion, Beccs, Nami, Doobs, William Ho, Current,
re "Abortion after birth is called murder in most societies"
I'm guessing "Victory 67" was referring to the practice of Partial Birth Abortion, where the fetus/baby is 80% born before it is murdered with the consent of its mother. It's not surprising that people who support the killing of human life within the womb also support this sort of killing. And as Atheist ethicist (go figure that one out) Peter Singer and his supporters believe the woman's right to kill should be extended, at least in some circumstances, to some period when beyond birth.
To repeat what ZugTheMegasaurus said. "Does it hurt to be stupid".
Christ the King (heh), please don't speculate on the stupidity of others when your entire refutation of their statements is based on two major assumptions.
First, you assume (or "guess", as you put it) that the post refers to partial birth abortions. You don't know. Even if you do know, you're overlooking that partial birth abortion takes place during the birth, not after it.
Second, you assume that I or anyone else who commented on the "abortion after birth is called murder" bit would condone the legalization of partial birth abortion. I cannot speak for anyone else around here, but I assure you that I do not generally condone partial birth abortion. I do, however, believe that abortion prior to viability ought to be safe, legal, and available, and that no woman should be made to feel guilty for ANY medical decision she makes.
Well Pix your position is as clear as mud.
I'm guessing (yes I do that often) that you're writing from the US. The reality is that various court rulings since and including Roe V Wade did make Partial Birth Abortion legal. So the procedure was already legal, or at least it was until recently when Planned Parenthood and other Pro-Choice activists lost their court challenge to the Federal ban on Partial Birth Abortion. Three cheers for the recently revamped Supreme Court. See what those rotten Catholic Justices have done, they voted against Planned Parenthood, and don't the Pro-Choice lobby hate it. Have your heard Rosie O'Donnell's rant about the Catholics on the Supreme Court?
Flipper says,
"Abortion is what you will never have to worry about having because I bet you are male, creep! Abortion allows a woman to have control over her own body instead of you, your government or your church(rankles the shit out of you doesn't it)!"
What's up honey? Why all the negative vibes?
I'm a male, and abortion does effect me. When my now 5 year old daughter's mother wanted to have her aborted I intervened to stop her. My intervention was not governed by some desire to control the mother's body, but simply to protect the life of my daughter.
The question I'm now wrestling with is this. When my daughter grows up should I tell her that her mother wanted her killed before she was born? To me this sounds a bit harsh. But what do you think? Whenever I'm reminded of God's Mercy I think no, I'll keep my daughter's near death experience a secret, at least from her.

Hey, Christ the King: care to cite any of your assertations?
In reference to your "Partial Birth Abortion" rant, I only have to ask you one thing: do you honestly believe that a woman will intentionally put herself through unnecessary months of physical and emotional pain prior to intentionally terminating a pregnancy?
Late term abortions exist to deal with serious complications and/or fetal abnormalities . That means that either the woman or the fetus will not survive completion ofthe full term of pregnancy--and, as an abortion was not sought earlier (when its safer and more convenient), that said pregancy was wanted . The procedure you described is (or rather was) used, in very rare case, because it was the safest option for such late situations.
And for your edification (as a nice balance to that most imformative link you offered):

And, for good measure, here's http://www.guttmacher.org/pubs/fb_induced_abortion.html (beucase it's always a good idea to actually know something about the topic you're discussing).
yes it does. your point?
in which case I would be dead and would not have an opinion about it.
there are a lot of women who would disagree with you there.
does not help what? it certainly doesn't help the pro-life movement certainly.
so can unwanted children and childbirth
no it's not. this is pure rhetoric with no information to back it up.
if it's after birth, it's not abortion.
My period is late this month. I am a nineteen year old college student in a committed relationship, but I'm busy with school and I don't have the time or money to properly raise a child. If I'm pregnant, I am -totally- getting an abortion. Sorry (except for not).
You're not a person until you have a nervous system, a "soul" and a heartbeat - at the earliest. The Bible says you're only a person 40 days after birth.
Yes, if I was aborted, I would not exist. So what? I would not know the difference.
Abortions have saved millions of women, who would otherwise have died during pregnancy, labor or shorty afterward. Remember Jane Seymour?
Help who? How? Why? See the above point.
Abortion can lead to remorse later on, yes. Abortion can also lead to the possibility to have remorse later on, i.e. the woman survives long enough to be able think "what if?".
In order to have a murder, you need a person to be the victim. An embryo is not a person.
You can't abort a fetus after birth.
God is the greatest abortionist; somewhere around four out of five implanted embryos are spontaneously aborted before the end of the first trimester. Quite a few more are stillborn or born with such severe birth defects that they only live a few hours or days.
It seems God has designed a VERY inefficient way to produce babies, as only one in 10 (or so) implanted embryos make it out of the womb alive.
Take into account that it takes an average of a year for a normal, healthy couple to achieve an implanted embryo.
After a year you are considered involuntary childless. What did we do wrong, in the eyes of your God?
You are Failure 2010.
Abortion would have killed you if it was applied before you were born.
It wouldn't have killed me, since there would have been no "me" to kill -- it simply would have prevented me from existing in the first place. Similarly, I wouldn't exist if my parents had chosen not to have sex -- abstinence kills!
This guy has been repeating himself over and over for 3 years in that thread, and of the several pages I read, I didn't see one coherent argument from him.
One thing I found particularly amusing is how he kept commenting about how that thread was so popular because people are interested in what they're saying about abortion and sites are linking to it. I doubt he has any idea that one or more of those links are right here on this site, where people are laughing at his stupidity.
“Abortion kills the person who was started/conceived.”
Meh. So does a miscarriage. So does an ectopic pregnancy.
“Abortion would have killed you if it was applied before you were born.”
That’s kinda the point, yes.
“Abortion never does anything good for a woman.”
See above ectopic pregnancy.
Or if there’s a miscarriage and the woman is carrying one or more corpses around until they’re removed. Such as happened to my wife.
“Abortion does not help.”
Sez you.
“Abortion can lead to many problems including mental.”
All i can think of is a pre-teen being forced to carry her rapist’s baby to term. THAT’ll leave a scar.
“Abortion is a nice way to say murder.”
Nope. Murder is hyperbole. Abortion is more akin to ‘stand your ground’ or ‘the castle defense.’
“Abortion after birth is called murder in most societies.”
Um, at the sunny end of the birth canal it’s not abortion any more.
Confused?
