although, everything exists for a cause. if we were here just living to die and that was that...there would be no reason for jesus or any other type of religion for that matter. i would have no desire to become closer to God. that 100 year old tree that helped make a house for the needy would have never grown.
you would have never been born which made your mother smile which inspired your father to take a picture and become a photographer and become a renowned artist. (i made that up obviously, it was just an example)

Actually, this is a very good argument for why religion exists.
If there was no God, some people would have a really hard time finding reasons to exist. Therefore they like to believe that some big warm fuzzy dude in the sky is looking over them and has some master plan.
Believe what you want, April, but if we disagree, it might just be for a good reason.
Which always seems to be beyond your comprehension. Christians will swear up and down that they aren't perfect, but get one to admit they're wrong...
I think that Karl Marx was essentially correct in saying that relgion is the opiate of the masses. ...Not that it drugs them into submission, but it is what makes life bearable at times. Some people can't accept the possibility that their lives *don't* have a purpose, and religion is the crutch they need to continue functioning. And I'm okay with that, really, as long as they don't feel the need to force me to use their crutches when I can walk pretty well on my own.
Not that that was the best metphor ever, but I'm tryin'...

Actually, Nyarlathotep, I think it's one of the best metaphors I've ever seen applied to this. Nice work!

It's so easy to critisize huh? Hey we're wrong sometimes just like everyone else and we'll admit it, but when it comes to jesus and christianity we know thats the truth, thats why we don't back down.
So what you're saying is that God allows things to cause other things??
You're right, without God, I couldn't drop this soda can and have it hit the floor.
Nylarathotep, that was pretty good. To be honest I never thought of it like that. Makes lots of sense. Lord knows sometimes it takes me lots of scotch to get through the day.
On to April. So, because there'd be no reason for it, nothing would happen? If that tree in your hypothetical was never born, well, wouldn't there be any needy? Why do you dismiss a tree but not people?
Confused?
