Like Jack Phillips before her, Kim Davies chose persecution over capitulation. She was told that her religious beliefs could not supersede the authority of the court. As Bay Area Guy reminded me recently, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn was quite right when he said that Americans are slavish in their devotion to the law instead of morality and personal ethics. This should not surprise us in the least as a Marxist society worships the state and considers its law holy scripture. Marxists hate God because the State is a jealous god.

Kim Davies chose persecution.
We have a winner, she wanted to be persecuted and chose for it to happen. It could have been avoided without her sacrificing her religious beliefs. She had the freedom of choice and chose to be a martyr for a lost cause.
"the State is a jealous god."
Genesis 20:4
"for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation"
At least the State only punishes the offender, not successive generations.
She was right to be told that her religious beliefs can't supersede religious superstition, as the USA is a secularist country. Secularism is the most reliable way of ensuring that people, of all creeds and non-religions, are free to practice their beliefs so long as they don't infringe upon the liberties of others, as the likes of Kim often want to do. Opposing this doesn't mean turning into slavish worshipers of the state. Acknowledging the necessity of laws to uphold equality does not equal totalitarianism.

I thought they were atheists.
Try getting your story straight and get back to us.

And the problem with this is...?
If someone's religious beliefs DID supersede the authority of the court, this would mean, for example, a Muslim could say that the Qur'an (or their interpretation of it, anyway) commands that they must convert you to Islam, by force, if necessary - and the court can't intervene.
In Kim Davies case, she, as a representative of the state, is required to issue marriage licenses to anyone who is legally allowed to get one. She does NOT have the authority or right to decide who should or should not get one, as she is responsible for following the rules, not creating them. If she is incapable of doing this due to her religious sensitivities, she should find a job more in line with them, in much the same way as a pork butcher who converts to Islam should do so.
She was told that her religious beliefs could not supersede the authority of the court.
That's absolutely right. She should sue Liberty Counsel for telling her to the contrary. I just wonder if she'll ever realize that they were just using her by turning her into a martyr.
The problem with allowing everyone's religious beliefs to supersede authority of law is that everyone becomes a law unto himself and the rule of law with everyone being treated equally becomes totally impotent and disappears completely.
She was told that her religious beliefs could not supersede the authority of the court.
That has always been true; otherwise, people could just do anything they want and claim it's their religion. Should Eric Rudolph be able to say he was following his religious beliefs when he bombed an abortion clinic and a lesbian bar?
"She was told that her religious beliefs could not supersede the authority of the court."
That's only because they don't (or do you believe that people who engage in human sacrifice in accord with their religious beliefs should be exempt from prosecution for homicide?)
@Thinking Allowed
"Who is Kim Davies?"
Is she related to "World of Sport " presenter Dickie Davies ?
Here is someone with distinctive hair, moustache, and is in the public eye. And a greatly respected TV personality. X3

Separated at birth? Are they somehow related? I think we should be told.
