[[In reference to the Texas Supreme Court's defense of the use of "exorcism"]]
If the people in the Torah, Holy Bible, and Koran could do it thousands of years ago, why can't we do it now? If people did it back thousands of years ago, they should have the right to do it now.

Sure--slavery, bloodsport, child sacrifice, the death penalty for minor offenses, rigid social caste systems, absolute monarchy and human gods...
...and we should also be able to marry 10 year olds, keep slaves, oppress women, and talk to God. Ain't happenin'.
Because people DIE during exorcisms, that's why.
If there were "satanists" killing anywhere near as many people as fundie exorcists do, the Salem witch hunts would look tame. However, as long as they're killing in the name of Jesus it's just fine and dandy.
The problem the the Texas Courts ruling was the the girl in question was held down against her will while the exorcism was forced on her, it amounts to nothing less than psychological rape. They should have the right to preform exorcisms but not when it requires the forcible restraint of an non consenting party.

I don't think you've thought your argument through well enough.

Absolutely, just as soon as it's proven to work.
yes because defending something you can't support with any evidence sure is the way to go in a court of law.
i mean sure we have found tons of things that expose exorcisms as refuted, but you know we should just go on with doing them because they work so well!
I wish I had some lions. No shortage of food in these parts.
Actually - in the great state of TX ... you can get wild animals for next to nothing! YAY! more Texans should purchase lions, and say we are worshiping the ROMAN gods when we feed them unwilling christians ...
It is for their own spiritual good after all right?
Awwww, whattaya mean I can't go over to the next town, kill everybody in it, including all the animals, burn down the buildings and all the crops and then salt the fields. I can't have any fun anymore. It ain't FAIRRRRR! Damn those people and their descendants, to the next seven generations!
"If the people in the Torah, Holy Bible, and Koran could do it thousands of years ago, why can't we do it now?"
They couldn't and you can't.
Because exorcism doesn't work. Trying to use it to cure people of deadly, yet curable diseases will result in dead people. There are recent examples of this ahppening, but I'm too lazy to cite a source. Just google 'exorcism death teenager'.
Taking people to a hospital for actual medical attention does work.
Umm, thousands of years ago, the average person's quality of life was remarkably poor, mostly due to ignorance and letting superstition rule their lives. That's why we can't do things that way now, because we've advanced. If you disagree, than get off your computer, which was created through modern scientific methods and studies, not by your Gawd.
Dude, 1000 years ago, people were shitting in the same rivers they bathed (when they bathed at all) and drank from, hiding in thatch huts from the awful creatures of the forest, and burned innocents at the stake on the slightest accusation.
Take your twisted ideology and get bent.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
