[About public reactions to the partial-birth abortion ban that was recently confirmed by the SCOTUS]
One woman was “sickened” (sickened!) by the ruling. Shannon Riggs from Salem regurgitated the usual irrelevant talking points about how by not allowing women to kill their babies about to be born inside of the womb we are making women “second-class citizens.” These people make it sound as if we are condemning women to stay in the kitchen or something—which is silly, because how could she possibly give birth in a kitchen? We’re not stupid!

You don't know how it works, do you?
If labor is going very quickly, you can end up giving birth anywhere.
Good commentary
In his written decision allowing the federal government to
criminalize a certain kind of abortion procedure, Justice Anthony
Kennedy explained in simple words that even we girls could understand
that the court's decision was actually good for us.
Why? Well, gosh and by golly, because he wanted to protect us from
having a procedure that we might not fully understand and would
probably come to regret. Well, duh! I surely am grateful to those boy
justices for assuming I can't read or follow the words when my
doctor 'splains things to me.
For the record, the other boy justices who signed onto that 5-4
decision were Chief Justice John Roberts, along with Justices
Clarence Thomas, Antonin Scalia and Samuel Alito. As far as I know,
not one of them is a doctor.
You've just provided substantial evidence that you are, in fact, stupid.
I think it's rather telling that the justices that passed this ban were all male, and that they seemed to portray all women as ignorant and incapable of making their own informed decisions.
My grandmother gave birth to my father at home, and his remaining siblings in a clinic. Obviously, she enjoyed some of the advantages of the modern world, which meant to stop putting the woman as a second class citizen, including education and many other resources, such as appliances, which relegated her from the tough job(and she´s a wonderful cook, by the way). That´s how a metaphore works, man. To be in the kitchen is to be relegated to hard and ungrateful jobs, not to be physically in the kitchen.
Like others have said, it used to be quite common for women to give birth on the kitchen table, especially before electricity. The stove would provide warmth in the winter and sterile water would be close by when the baby came.
That said, I'm happy about the SCOTUS ruling. The IDX procedure is barbaric.
You don't know how she could possibly do that? Well, she goes into labor, the cervix dilates, the uterus contracts, and the baby is born on the kitchen floor. You're welcome!
@ TheMissus:
Well, how about this then?
The outlawed procedure is used to prevent a lethally deformed fetus from killing or maiming the woman.
Remove the ad hominem and what's left is a perfectly polite statement you neglected to address.
Personally, I'm very happy not to live in a country that would set such limitations on the doctor(s) treating me. Many medical procedures can rightly be considered barbaric and disgusting, but that doesn't make for a good rationale for banning them.
Yeah no one could possibly give birth in a STABLE either, creep! 5 MALES on the Supreme Court made themselves gods and women second class citizens. Bad day for freedom and the Constitution! I'll bet you are male too, asshole.
As a long-time Live Journal user, I can tell you that, unfortunately, this freak has been spewing his fundie garbage for years. So sorry, he's definitely not Poe. he isn't even kidding.
How about the fact that there's no exception for my health, Moron? How about the fact that, if I needed this procedure because the fetus had died, I wouldn't be able to tell it goodbye because the procedure that has to be done thanks to this ban would involve cutting it up piece by piece while it's still inside me? You think Jesus likes that any better, you ignorant shit?
“Ephraim shall bring forth his children to the murderer. Give them, 0 Lord: what wilt thou give? Give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts. . .Ephraim is smitten, their root is dried up, they shall bear no fruit: yea though they bring forth, yet will I slay even the beloved fruit of their womb.”Hosea 9:11-16
“Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every women that hath known man by lying with him.” Numbers 31:17
Anyone who is captured will be run through with a sword. Their little children will be dashed to death right before their eyes. Their homes will be sacked and their wives raped by the attacking hordes. For I will stir up the Medes against Babylon, and no amount of silver or gold will buy them off. The attacking armies will shoot down the young people with arrows. They will have no mercy on helpless babies and will show no compassion for the children. Isaiah 13:15-18 NLT
