*Speaking of the Catholic Church*
What makes you think that? They've abandoned the traditional Latin Mass in the West and Greek Mass in the East (Divine Liturgy as you call it) along with many of the old Catholic dogmas that we shared with our Orthodox and Anglican brothers while attempting to be more like Protestants in an attempt to win them over. In these attempts at appeasement, we are losing what it means to be Catholic, what it once meant to be a member of the Church that was founded by Christ down through Peter and his successors.
The new Pope's endorsement of the welfare state and his tolerance of homosexuality and so on are just the beginning of a whole new sort of decline that will end in complete irrelevancy for the Church.

End in complete irrelevancy? Irredento, for most of the world, that happened a long, long time ago. In fact, for a lot of people, the statements of Papa Frankie are the only thing keeping them committed to the Church.

Oh, noes! If Church actually does its job of caring for poor, it will make the Church irrevelant!
OH, NOES! POPE DOESN'T DISCIMINATE AGAINST HOMOS!
"They've abandoned the traditional Latin Mass in the West and Greek Mass in the East" - no, quite a few of us are happily attending these every sunday.
"[A]long with many of the old Catholic dogmas that we shared with our Orthodox and Anglican brothers" - not a single dogma has been changed ever since the immaculate conception was included. Although there are more than few dogmas Orthodox Church gives us a fuss about - all accepted after the schism of 1054, to be precise.
"The new Pope's endorsement of the welfare state and his tolerance of homosexuality and so on" are nothing on shit like endorsement of agressive war (at top in XVI century, but present pretty much most of the time), or tolerance of thrones using altar as their mouthpiece (IV century onward, in some places with no end in sight).
So, all that Catholicism means to you is to listen to sermons in Latin?
The new Pope has actually read what Jesus supposedly said, and is adhering to that. Jesus didn't said "Fuck the poor", or "Hate those who are not like you". He said "That which you do to the least of my people, you do unto me" and "Sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor".
Complete irrelevancy for the Church? Fine by me. Japan and Sweden and other more or less non-religious countries seem to be doing fairly well...
Pope's endorsement of the welfare state
That's what really pisses you off, isn't it. That this Pope actually believes in trying to make things better for the poorest.
If you prefer your rituals to be unintelligible, start your own bombastic religion, or join a church that belives gibberish is, "speaking in tongues."
Here's a sample of what most parishoners will hear while attending a Latin Mass:

"Irredento"? that either means "not redeemed", which is nonsense for a Christian, or, in an Italian context, "Italian-speaking regions under foreign governments", which is shorthand for "I'm a fascist".
And that is bad... how??
Other than increased prominence of freethinkers, there will be little effect.

It will also help with the Narm ification of Faux News.
Can you say 'Vatican II ', Irrelevanto? As in 1962 -1965 , way before John Paul II & Ratzy the Nazi, never mind Pope Francis...?! Sedevacantist , much?

Sounds a lot like Paul changing the rules about the OT covenant when evangelizing.
what it once meant to be a member of the Church that was founded by Christ
Yeah, he never said a word about helping the poor or the ill...

Or maybe he's actually read Luke 18:22 and Romans 2. If you disagree with the Pope, why not become a Protestant yourself? Do you want the church to lead you, or just agree with you?
along with many of the old Catholic dogmas
Name one, just one.
There's a HUGE difference between a church teaching and a dogma, and if you're so goddamn super duper Catholic, then you should know that.
Btw, take a look around you. If the Catholic church was still practicing the Tridentine liturgy today as its sole form of eucharistic service, churches would be much more empty than they are now.
Go to your local parish and see how Sunday mass is being lived, and then imagine how it would be if everybody was still kneeling around waiting for a mumbling priest to pipe up with "et in saecula saeculorum", giving them a chance to finally say "Amen". Yup, that would be totally 21st century and Jesus would be beaming with pride.
Shocking!
A pope that really cares for the poors AND says that homosexuals have to be left alone!
For all that I care about catholics and their religion I find Franciscus the most decent pope of the last 20 years (Johannes Pauli II wasn't himself at the end).
He still has some work to do since there are still stupid-bigoted-assmonkeys like Irredento in the church but he's pretty cool for now.
As we all know, the most important thing for Jesus was that his followers worship him in the language of the empire that crucified him. Hell, he just wouldn’t shut up about this issue in the gospels
In fact, I cannot think of any other commands he gave his disciples in the bible, especially nothing about helping the poor, sharing their property or loving their neighbours!
Yeah, cause the guy who is the leader of the religious faith of 1 billion people, and 50% of Christians, is irrelevant as is the church he leads.
Pretty sure most Catholics are glad to see someone in charge that cares more about caring for the poor than reinforcing conservative dogma.
That said: The Catholic's church position on homosexuality is the same it was under John Paul II and Benedict. Francis is just stating it a lot better.
The Catholic Church became completely irrelevant to me (and no doubt to many others who were born and raised Catholic, like me) years ago. However, the fact that it is now headed by a pope who has at least some tiny clue of what century we are living in has to be a good thing.
Confused?
