Sure there is. It's illegal to attack anyone. And if you do it because of someone's religion, that's a hate crime ... you know, that thing fundies bitch about when it's applied to attacking gays.
So even if there were no law to prosecute someone for physically attacking Christians for being Christians (which there is), how does that justify not passing a law to protect homosexuals or anyone else? Change the hate crimes law to protect everyone and problem solved.

Well, Pat, there is a law against assault and battery. There are numerous laws against hurting someone, whether physically or mentally. There are even laws against murder and such.
There are no laws allowing you to hurt anybody for whatever reason.
Yeah, actually that's a hate crime, too. And anyway, it's assault, no matter what the reason is. So...yeah, it is.

Um...THAT'S WHAT THE FUCKING HATE CRIMES LAW IS ABOUT! It specifically says that if the reason you commit a violent crime is because of the victim's race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation , then you have also committed a hate crime (i.e., terrorism against the aforementioned group your victim belonged to). If you do not commit a violent crime against another person, then it is impossible for you to be guilty of a hate crime.
As a member of a minority religion, I sure as fuck hope religion is covered, because the last thing I need is to be killed to "show those filthy heathens whose country this REALLY is!"
