It's wise to admit that ChrisDACase95 & the above Lockheed SR-71 pilot at 70,000 feet are right, and you Flat Headers are wrong .

Sooo..let me put it more simply for you Dilletanti: if the Earth is flat and not moving, why does it take a longer amount of time to fly the same plane at the same flight speed from Los Angeles to New York (West to East) as it does to fly from New York to Los Angeles (East to West), which is the exact same distance?
Correct Answer: Coriolis effect, as JeanP mentioned above.
