Again, Atheism =/= Nihilism, you imbeciles! In fact, I'm an atheist and an existentialist & ethical hedonist, amongst others. But NOT a nihilist.
My point is that, yes, we are minuscule and worthless in the grand scheme of things. But so what? Our lack of a purpose only makes that even better! We can make our own purpose as much as we want! We are free to make our own choices.
Life is short and meaningless, so why not try to make things as pleasant as possible for each other in the meantime? I think there's nothing more meaningful that making yourself and others as happy as possible.
To quote Hoghfather (story, not character), "take the universe and grind it down to the finest powder and sieve it through the finest sieve and then show me one atom of justice, one molecule of mercy. And yet- And yet you act as if there is some ideal order in the world, as if there is some rightness in the universe by which it may be judged. [...]You need to believe in things that aren't true. How else can they become?"
Simply put, the universe will only make sense if we force it to. You want happiness, justice, etc.? Then go out there and make some instead of hoping your sky daddy will do it for you.
I'm sorry, but my philosophical beliefs are something I can get passionate about.
