I also wondered if the atheists are right why do they need so many books? If their arguments were valid they would have only needed one.

Unlike religion, atheism embraces several world views. so there are many books discussing atheism. I don't necessarily agree with any of them.
If you're talking about why we have several science books, you're making the erroneous assumption that when someone doesn't accept your Genesis account of creation, they're automatically atheists. Try to understand that having a scientific mindset doesn't mean they're not also religious.
I know it's hard for a ~~cretin~~ creationist to understand that while your "theory" is explained in one book, the Bible, a real scientific theory explaining the origins of the universe, suns, planets, and life on earth crosses over many scientific disciplines including physics and biology to name but two.

I have a lot of books because intelligent people like reading about ideas from more then one source. While it's true you don't need any books to be an atheist, no matter how faulty or falacious one's reasoning is, as long as one doesn't believe in God they are an atheist. Never the less being exposed to lot's of different and ideas and different religions makes it easier to be an atheist, and the more educated you are the better your arguments are. So there you have it, the reason why our arguments are valid and why we have far more arguments then you, is because we have more books to draw knowledge from?
Think about this as a war. Do you just want to have one aircraft carrier and call it good, or do you want to have more than your opponent? And don't you want yours to be better as well? Well all you have is your own 2000 year old rusty, rinky-dink ship, and we have an armada of the latest biggest boats the world as ever seen.

I wonder, if those who like Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump manga are right about their 'tastes' [/4chan's /a/], why is "One Piece" so long?

If their argument was valid (about it being the 'greatest manga ever written'), then why was it that "Outlaw Star" - published by Shueisha in 'Ultra Jump' - and essentially "One Piece" in space, only took up three manga volumes?

And a definite case of Adaptation Expansion, as the anime version had 26 episodes.

Thus similarly Shitehouse, if your argument is invalid, your Bible - certainly the New Testament - would only have one book, and not 66.

...so I guess - like the "One Piece" fanwankers - you fundies are wrong.

If "Outlaw Star" and "Coyote Ragtime Show" (again, set in space) can tell a story about finding treasure (the 'Galactic Leyline' in the former, Pirate King Bruce's S$10 billion in the latter), having adventures & battles (those also searching for the Galactic Leyline in the former; Madame Marciano & her 12 android super-assassin 'SISTERs' in the latter) - but in infinitely LESS time/chapters/episodes, with a beginning, middle & END, then there's no justification whatsoever for something to be dragged out into what has basically become "Dragonball Z" on the high seas (and "One Piece" is essentially Popeye the Sailor Man with ideas above it's station). It's gotten as far removed from 'Pirates' as it's possible to become.

Frankly, the new anime series "Moretsu Pirates" airing in Japan right now, is what piracy is supposed to be about - and in this scenario's case, legal (as in government-sanctioned) pirates. And, like "Outlaw Star" and "Coyote Ragtime Show", is pirates in space (as in superior ships & weapons) - and the main characters (will soon) actually look like pirates, too.

PROTIP: "Moretsu Pirates" started at the end of last year. I notice that (compared to the terrible winter we in the UK had previously) this winter was fairly mild (even in double figures last Xmas Day). So I guess it's true what is said, re. Pastafarian doctrine, about numbers of pirates related to Global Warming...!

Many books are full of knowledge. These books are read by people who wish to acquire that knowledge. After reading a book that contains information that someone needs, they are usually better off, since they now know or better understand something they previously did not. I can see why such a concept becoming smarter and thinking for one's self is both alien and repugnant to people like Lighthouse, but that's how it is.

Oh, and Lighthouse? It's not just atheists who read books to learn more. Anyone who seeks information reads them regardless of any personal belief or non-belief in a deity. Or are you saying that in order to be a good Christian one must be ignorant and know as little as possible about the world around them? Because it sure sounds like you are.

Lighthouse: "forget all that science-y stuff and philosophy and all that, all I need is a book of Iron Age admonishments and parables to make it in today's world!"

Between Lighthouse, Sum1sGruj, and aCultureWarrior, I'll be surprised if the reasonable people in that thread didn't go bald or bust something while they were trying to talk some sense into their senseless heads.

This, in response to where he was quoted, and direct links were supplied to his original statements that he denies making in this very post. If you look through that and other threads on that site you'll see Lighthouse makes it virtually impossible to have anything even approximating an honest discussion w/ him if you disagree w/ his idiotic claims or faulty reasoning.

You can go line by line to carefully deconstruct his baseless assertions & if he even bothers to respond, it'll be something along the lines of, "I know you are but what am I?" or "Nuh-uh" or simply a stupid emoticon, all while NOT addressing your points. He then of course declares victory for his witty rejoinder (CHECKMATE!) & gives himself a high-five or a handjob or something. It's basically an argumentum ad exasperation - be so childishly annoying to anyone who would dare to disagree with you that they'll see the futility of even trying to challenge you, ever. That means you win EVERYTIME. AWESOME!
