WALLACE: But couldn’t any community then say they don’t want a mosque in our community?
CAIN: They could say that
And you can say that, but that's about all you can do. The fact that you find someone else's religious beliefs and house of worship to be offensive does not justify denying them the same basic human rights that you enjoy.
lets go back to the fundamental issue that the people are basically saying they’re objecting to. They’re objecting to the fact Islam is both a religion and a set of laws, Sharia law. That’s the difference between any one of our other traditional religions where it’s just about religious purposes.
I'm sorry but have you somehow failed to do even the most basic research into your own religion? Have you ever read the fucking bible? It carries it very own set of laws which is every bit as reprehensible, sexist, and oppressive as anything found in sharia law.
The people in the community know best, and I happen to side with the people in Murfreesboro.
The "community" IS NOT empowered to strip the constitutional rights from anyone, for any reason. The whole purpose of the rule of law is to protect the minority, be they racial, political, or religious, from the tyranny of the majority. The people of Murfreesboro have no more leave to deny these people their constitutionally enshrined rights than I do to deny you yours.
WALLACE: You’re saying any community, if they want to ban a mosque?
CAIN: Yes. They have a right to do that. That’s not discriminating based upon religion.
No. They. Do. Not. Someone who aspires to hold the office of the president should have at least some understanding of the 1st Ammendment, especially the part that say "Nor prohibit the free exercise thereof". Denying a group of religious people the right to congregate and worship just because you don't like their religion is the very definition of religious discrimination.
