Listen carefully now: It doesn't matter why homosexuality was removed as a mental illness - it matters why it was there in the first place. If you want to categorize homosexuality as a disorder, the burden of proof is on you. If you can't produce results, homosexuality should not be viewed as a disorder. It's that fucking simple.
The status of Africans as inferior to whites, too, was removed only when it was deemed "politically incorrect". Does that make it true? Does it means blacks are inferior to whites? Of course not. It means that people discarded something that should never have been there in the first place.
Do you want to categorize homosexuality as a mental illness? Fine, get your science in order. Show me some actual research. Tons of research has gone into bipolar disorder, for example. Show me some valid, empirical research on homosexuality.

Simple. Scientists actually LOOKED at the data rather then just assuming that society's prejudices were true and figured out that, "Hey, gay people don't fit the parameters of being mentally ill."
And yes, there are gay people who are mentally ill but that illness is no more due to being gay then being straight does.

It wasn't 300 years, you mouth-breathing trog, it was 21. Homosexuality was added to the DSM as a sociopathic personality disturbance, thought to be an adverse phobia to the opposite gender, in 1952. It was removed in '73 not because 'da joos cuntroll da Wurld!!!" but because people took a step back, and realized what assholes they were being.

No, a lot of very intelligent and highly trained people (some of whom were Jewish, most of whom were not) looked at the evidence and found that homosexuality didn't fit the criteria of a mental illness. Also, homosexuality hadn't been considered a mental illness since the dawn of time. Considering it such was actually quite recent.
