(In reference to Roy Moore allegations)
Mary was probably 15 when she married Joseph, who was probably around 30. What's the problem?

What's the problem???
How about the fact that, as much as Mr. Moore would like it, he doesn't live in a goat-herding, superstitious, patriarchal tribe, where such a behaviour would be accepted?
Love how that guy didn't want a woman to be able to care for her children because she was a lesbian. Shows you just what republicans consider "good for children".
1) Mary was famously a virgin when she gave birth to Jesus. Also Joseph is famously not Jesus father. Jesus was conceived by the will of God.
2)we don't know exactly how old either of them were when they got married. Catholics believed that Joesph never had sex with Mary and the reference to Jesus' siblings are from a previous marriage hence why he's depicted as much older.
3)Even if there was an age difference, it was acceptable in their culture at the time. It is not acceptable in 21st century USA.
If you can't see what the problem is, it shows just what a problem you have.
Mary and Joseph's ages were never recorded. And we DO live the 21st Century (normal people do, anyway).
In this time 'Mary' would probably have been more like 12. Basically as soon as a girl began to mature she was expected to be married. Being married to someone because that is what has been decided by your father it probably doesn't really matter if he is 18 or 80 - though in some ways she probably is better off if he is really old as rape is less likely and an old man will PROBABLY be less abusive.
Certainly if I had been given the choice at 12 of a rapist who would hurt me every day and get me pregnant immediately or a man incapable of intercourse who dies a few years after marriage and that marriage had basically consisted of nursing him I would take the latter option!
Marriage does not equate to sex, and the two were definitely not married and wasn't there something along the lines of "you shall not have sex until after marriage"?
They forget their own "morals" whenever it's inconvenient, don't they?
For fuck's sake
Once again
In that culture women were forced into those marriages. Still want to use that argument? OK then. No more complaining when Christians in our culture are forced to do things they do not want against their fucking will. And if you can't see the problem you ARE the fucking problem
As a side note: Suppose Moore was D and was secular rather than theocratic. Would you still be asking what the fucking problem is?
@ HS
he doesn't live in a goat-herding, superstitious, patriarchal tribe,
Oh, I thought he lives in Alabama.
@ Chloe
It is not acceptable in 21st century USA.
In some ways it's still 1864 down there and "the wawa" ain't ovah yit.
We can always depend on "family values" fundamentalists to defend child molesters.
Every fucking time, long as they talk Jesus they can get away with anything.
By the way, the charges (so far) are pretty much heavy petting on one occasion, nothing will come of this, some Repugs have actually refused to defend his actions and his main backers have severed ties but no legal action will occur.
I think everyone supporting him just wanna cause shit anyway, this guys been removed from office three times for violating Constitutional law, he's just gonna do it again. Within months he'll be using taxpayer money to put up illegal tributes to his God again, but if he does the Far-Righters will be happy for awhile because pissing people off is all they're about.
What's the problem?
Oh, I dunno: just ask Tony Alamo.
The problem being you & all your ilk being Paedophilia Apologists.
The problems started for you fundie Christains with Josh Buggar.
It's all been downhill for you lot.
What evidence do you have of him being so much older than her? Chapter and verse, please.
What evidence, beside the Bible, do you have of them existing, at all?
@Swede , the funny thing is that the story about Mary being a young teen marrying an older man is non-Biblical Catholic legend. Funny how many Protestants who claim to follow the Bible exclusively believe it.
That and the story about Mary Magdalene being a prostitute. The Catholic church disavowed the story, but fundies still believe it.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
