"Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live" is not equivalent to "go on a witch hunt.
There was a judicial system of law in Israel that would judge these practitioners of witchcraft and convict them if enough evidence of their wrongdoing could be found. This is in no way equivalent to a witch hunt."

In no way equivalent whatsoever. Nope. Not at all. Nu-uh, nothing like it.
"Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live" is not equivalent to "go on a witch hunt.
Although it does not equate a witch hunt, it does tell you to kill witches.
Now I don't know about Israel, but in Salem, if you were accused of being a witch and you denied it, you were hung.

What kind of evidence?
What did they do with those convicted?
[This is in no way equivalent to a witch hunt.]
Yes, it is. It's exactly equivalent to a witch hunt.
When "evidence of their wrongdoing" pretty much consists of accusations, forced confessions, and blatant confirmation-bias examinations, it's pretty darned amazing that anyone who was ever prosecuted for witchcraft was ever acquitted.

Batshit insane juducial system with alterior motives. Happening in parts of Christian Africa right now.
And you just know this jerk would like to see it revived in America again, especially since Wicca members are on the rise
But now there isn't any such law and we can be witches if we like and you just have to suck it up and deal with it.
Now that we've got that straightened out, carry on.
It most certainly is not equivalent, because something cannot be equivalent to itself.
In other words, that's exactly what a witch hunt is.
@Xotan: I've heard that the issue is that the concepts were a lot more similar in the ancient world; 'witchcraft' was more a matter of herbs and poisons, often used hostilely, mixed with mumbo-jumbo than anything like the (peaceful and moral) modern system of Wicca.
Of course, it doesn't matter that the trails consisted of torturing the poor woman until she either died a slow an painful death from the torture, or confessed, and was then tortured to death.
A confession would be seen as proof, because she confessed to being a witch. No cenfession would also be proof of witchcraft, because only a witch dare deny her aboninations in the face of the lord, right?
Go DIAF, asshole.
Damn, atrasicarius got to make the Monty Python joke before me.
All the same, though...
