It is painfully obvious that the anti-Christian lobby demand not just acceptance but obedience to their far left dogma and will smear anyone who speaks up for Christian values. The message that the Lakewood Board of Education sent last night is that anyone with deeply held Biblical beliefs is not welcome in our public schools. The board’s actions were both immoral and illegal. My family has resided in this community for over 50 years. The rejection by this school board is a slap in the face not only to Christians everywhere, but to our family in particular. In America, only Christians can be discriminated against. Homosexual teachers and coaches would be welcomed with open arms.

By Christian you mean WASP, don't you? You don't care about the blacks, or the Jews, or the Catholics, right? And you don't care about religious moderates, don't you?
"Unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance. If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them. [...] We should therefore claim, in the name of tolerance, the right not to tolerate the intolerant." - Karl Popper, The Open Society and Its Enemies (1945), Vol. 1, Notes to the Chapters: Ch. 7, Note 4.
"An intolerant sect has no right to complain when it is denied an equal liberty. ... A person’s right to complain is limited to principles he acknowledges himself." - John Rawls, “Toleration of the intolerant,” A Theory of Justice (1971), p. 217
So, you got discriminated against because you don't want other people to live the life they want? Good, I hope it happens again and again and again.
Ridiculous. I live near there and I know all about this asshole. It was not his outspoken Christian beliefs that resulted in his elimination from consideration. It was his outspoken approval and encouragement of hazing, bullying, and persecutions of gays. It was his outspoken devotion to the "Birther' cause and his refusal to leave his politics outside of his job. It was his various proud racist, homophobic, and misoginistic statements.
His being a Christian had nothing to do with it.
anyone with deeply held Biblical beliefs is not welcome in our public schools.
Actually, anyone with deeply held Biblical beliefs who goes around spouting them to students is not welcome in our public schools. Daubenmire left that extra little part out.
It's Lakewood High you're upset about.
And schools been firing gays and lesbians (or even suspected gays and lesbians) for eons. But schools suddenly discover that one knuckle- dragger with a big mouth can do all kinds of psychological damage to young kids who are having difficulties coming out or dealing with psycho-sexual issues and suddenly the christian crowd is all hot and bothered about freedom of speech.
Where was this concern during the Vietnam war when teachers and students spoke out against the war, just like the Prince of Peace told them to, and they wwere either expelled or fired?
Mama mia, there are days when I really loath Christians!
If your Christian values didn't include hating and discriminating against anyone you don't like, then maybe you wouldn't be "discriminated" against.
Had to go to the article editorial to see what the fuss is about, and basically it's some outspoken far-right anti-gay Christian complaining because he didn't get a coaching job at a school. Whine some more. Because how many gay teachers in the past were fired after their sexual orientation was found out and Christian parents complained about it?
*edit* read up more on him from the links provided here. This guy is a total asshole and shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a teaching job.
Funny how in other cases you've always supported the right of employers to hire and fire whomever they please. You were given a chance to attend the meeting and speak, as was your daughter. But school board members have other things besides your feelings they have to consider. As one of the mothers there said “Will Mr. Daubenmire build the confidence of gay young men hoping to play Lakewood football? [...] Will Dave Daubenmire teach his athletes to respect others when he publicly promotes bullying and admonishes homosexuality? ... My kids deserve better from you. As a mom and taxpayer, I expect more of you. ... I beg of you to vote no.”
Hey, here's a breaking news flash, not all Christians are anti-gay bigots like you. You don't speak for them. Not letting you discriminate against gay people is not discriminating against you or Christianity. You are the one doing the discriminating, so your attempts to play the victim are obviously fake and pathetic to almost every who isn't a far-right bigot like yourself, and you're in the minority.
After reading up about you I can clearly see that you weren't hired because you are a homophobic, sexist twat. It had nothing to do with being "Christian". You wouldn't understand what the "do unto others as you'd have done to you", "judge not lest ye be judged", and "love thy neighbor" parts of the bible meant if Jesus came back and hit you upside the head. There's nothing Christian about what you do.
Anti-Christian lobby? What is this imaginary "anti-Christian" lobby you're on about? Either you're delusional or you're lying for Jesus (who by the by, was a LIBERAL himself). By the way, being fired for being an intolerant bully who advocates bullying is not "persecution" and has nothing to do with being Christian.
Screw you and your family. What do you think you are, the Queen of Lakewood?
We need more people from UFO churches, Spiritualists, etc., to come forward and grouse about not being catered to in schools, just so idiots like this can understand why we have some modest restrictions.
Uh huh. Cry more and ask god to wipe your tears away. Also, shut up. Gay teachers have routinely been fired and barred from teaching because of bigotry often passed off as Christian beliefs. Shitty teachers who are Christians often get a free pass for their behavior because they cry persecution. Teachers who bring their religion and politics into the classroom and promote discrimination should get their asses handed to them, end of story.
I expect Americans discriminate against ignorance because they want their children to be educated and enlightened. I expect Americans discriminate against blustering bigots because they value justice. I expect Americans discriminate against liars because they value honour and truth. I expect Americans discriminate against ignorant, bigoted, liars, whether or not they are Christian, because they value freedom and democracy.
What color is the sky in your parallel world, dearie? Christians are an overwhelming majority in the US, stupid! It's virtually impossible to become president without being Christian, for example.
So, you have deeply held Biblical beliefs? Have you stoned any unruly children at the city gates yet? Sold all your possessions and given the money to the poor? Refrained from cutting your hair or beard?
Far left dogma? You mean like the dogma Jesus held, of helping the poor, of owning everything together in your community and sharing it with each other, of loving your neighbor as yourself (even if he or she is gay), stuff like that?
Homosexual coaches are not welcomed with open arms, asshole, they are often mistrusted and frowned upon, sometimes sacked or ostracized.
If you think that the only discrimination there is, is not being able to spout your religious dogma to innocent listeners, then you're painfully naive and have no sense of reality whatsoever.
Remember:
When you score a touchdown in a football game, it's Jesus's doing and you should thank Jesus for giving you that touchdown.
When you fail to score, it's your own damn fault.
Oh, also, apparently Jesus only helps players who are playing offense. Jesus has to make the Defense screw up in order for you to score that touchdown, after all.
Discrimination: Not allowing theocrats to indoctrinate your children into being Right-Wing Fundamentalist sheep.
Pray your ass off Dave, in fact, get the fuck off of radio, blogs and internet venues and pray to your damn God ALL DAY LONG. Knock yourself out.
Confused?
