No, they compare quite well. The arguments against same-sex marriage are often echoes of the arguments that were offered against interracial marriages.
God forbids it, they said, with quotes from scripture.
It doesn't produce children, and that's the whole point of marriage.
Or it does produce children, but the children of those marriages suffer teasing from other children.
It's perverse.
It's the end of a bloodline, thus disrespecting your parents.
So, a lot of the arguments offered against same-sex marriage seem just as stupid because we just don't care about the offered scriptures, or if someone who isn't in the couple is offended, or weird arguments about the 'PURPOSE' of secular marriage licenses, and so on.
And just like SSM, interracial marriages existed on a state-by-state basis for a while, until SCOTUS just upped and said, "Y'all gotta get with the program."
