[Ultra-rare Atheist Fundie!]
VIRGINIA - The objective of a new video game is to stop the spread of Christianity and Islam by brutally killing biblical prophets, says the game’s atheist creator.
A graduate student at the University of Virginia created the game --which has not yet been released-- in order to give a voice to atheists, according to WSLS Television News. The grad-student wishes to remain anonymous for “fear of his safety.”
[...]
He hopes the game’s real message --helping kids imagine a time when religion was new and less organized-- will not become an undertone to the violence.
“It’s the idea of being able to go back in time and sort of nipping the problem in the bud,” says the game's creator.

That's pretty violent, and fundie. But I wouldn't call atheist fundies "rare." They're probably about #3 here on the boards. My informal ranking is something like
1) Christian
2) Muslim
3) Atheist
4) Wiccan
5) Jew
6) Buddhist
Never saw anything else. 4-6 have about 5 quotes between them in all the years I've been visiting.
I can just here the fundies now: "You see! See this! This is what the atheists want to do to me! I told you that they were all immoral, violent, hateful ingrates who want to destroy religion and revel in the blood of fallen believers! I am so persecuted!!"
Thanks Anon. Thanks a lot for this. You could have given atheists a voice that was much less venomous and retarded. But whatever.
Either the ultimate dumbass atheist or a Christian "Dirty Tricks" campaign.
Seriously fucked, either way.
1. This video game apparently has no name, and is not a product of any company.
2. This news report comes from Utah.
3. What atheist is going to pick a name like "Anonymous Fundie Atheist"?
Interesting.
And of course the creator is a student from the University of Virginia...recently emotionally associated with godless school shootings...hmm. Unless there is another source with some more concrete information, such as the name of this game, or the producer, release date, etc., I call BULLSHIT. Maybe someone should email the reporter who wrote the article.
So this guy is a blasted fundie. But the question is, is the game any better than those Christian videogames?
Personally, if I created an anti-religious game, I'd call it 'Chariots of Iron' and you'd ride around in one of those war chariots trying to beat off an invading army. And god would be the final boss.
And with Vangelis' 'Chariots of Fire' playing all the while.
EDIT: Actually, come to think about it violence is pretty prevalent in all videogames, so without seeing it I can't say if it is fundie or not. If it's just a vessel to pass his own beliefs across, then it is probably fundie. But one would have to see.
Currently there is no such game. It is in the "concept" stage of development and only has a few still images.
Nonetheless, how is it any diffrent than Assassin's Creed?
This is not Fundie.
I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, I don't really have a problem with someone making this type of game. It has the makings of a crazy parody that some people may get a kick out of. It's not my thing in the slighest, but if people like it then it's no skin off my back. Sure, some will use it to continue painting atheists in a bad light, but those type of people will do that about anything they can get their hands on and won't be swayed no matter what.
On the other hand, the person provides a fairly messed up rationale for making it. Especially with this part: "Atheists have never really had anything to speak for them like this." The guy is an idoit if he thinks atheists need this sort of thing to speak for them. If he wants to create a game in poor taste that's fine with me, I'm all for creative freedom. But to try to make it sound like he's doing this important thing for atheists and little kids is insane. Let's face it, one of the major problems with religion is exactly this: People kill those with a different belief over it and do not respect their right to exist. That is the only undertone involved with the game that I can see based on this brief article.
It's hard to make a game about atheism, and spreading it is doing something we dislike about true religions...
Difficult situation. I wonder if it will be freeware?
The xian fundies are already starting to milk this:
From the Shock and Blog site:
As I have already shown, "Left Behind: Eternal Forces" was smeared by atheists and others with false accusations of "convert or kill" violence. Yet now along comes a new game created by an atheist coward in which the goal is to go back in time and slaughter Abraham, authors of the books of the Bible, and Muhammed, thus putting an end to Christianity and Islam (and presumably Judaism, too). Wow. Just wow. I bet not many atheists will condemn (much less even mention) this game like they did "Eternal Forces."
I think this is a christian farce to discredit atheists... we aren't even of one kind to have some moron represent us, even less a fundie moron.
Never heard of an atheist fundie, but I guess that if someone really really hated all religions he/she could become one.
If this thing was real I'd condemn it, intolerance is not our way (or it shouldn't).
This is a bullshit story. As a gamer (PC not console, please) I know the effort and expense required in coming out with a really good game.
No way a grad student alone, no matter how brilliant, can create a game based on such thin premise. Unless the game is 2D and 8bit like the old arcade games.
PC -even console - games have come a long long way from those.
Some guy got to boasting over beer and some idiot TV reporter picked it up.
If some grad student did manage to come up with such a game, he wouldn't want to remain anonymous. He'd be flogging this to EA or Blizzard for mucho pesos and trumpeting it to the rest of the nerds for boasting rights.
Such a retarded concept for a video game. Try something a little more intelligent, like this:
An italian-born brooklyn plumber gets sucked into one of his pipes, and is transported to a world of sentient mushrooms, who's princess has been kidnapped by a giant firebreathing spiky turtle, and must be rescued.
Oh, wait.
While I agree with the people that pointed out that it's beyond unlikely that he could make a traditional commercial game of this, I must say there are a ton of games put up on the internet by complete amatures that range in size. So it's certainly possible if that's what he's going to do with it. For example, what later became one of the most popular MMORPGs was originally made by an undergrade student that ran it out of his parent's house and for years before that he would make and sell small applet games to websites. He would later go on to make millions. On the other end of things, there are entire sites dedicated to free games that people throw up on a website. Some are long, most aren't, but they have many a wacky concept that this reminds me of.
But, regardless if that is the case or not, I do buy his reasoning behind remaining anonymous (which the full article goes into). After hearing that Lars Viliks had to go into hiding for death threats he received on his cartoon of Muhammad as a dog, I'd not let anyone know who I was either.
Nonetheless, how is it any diffrent than Assassin's Creed?
Because the designer of the game believes it to represent that the goal of all atheism is killing religion and religious believers.
Wow, you guys sure do stick up for free speech.
By the way, that was sarcasm. Christians post violent video games up like that Left Behind faggy game. What's wrong with one of us posting something about them for once? No group is protected from hostility.
Don't like it, get the hell out of America. We have a little thing called the First Amendment.
Mad Stan - I'm not sure anyone has a problem with one's right to make such a game. Rather they are attacking the creator's reasoning behind making the game. I can't speak for everyone in the thread, but I'm all for his right and the right of Christian fundies to use whatever concept they want to make a game and I couldn't care less if people want to play them. However, if either were to say they were making some violent anti-whatever belief game as a way of speaking for their belief and trying to get children to think about how they were right, I would call tht person a small minded asshole. I may have missed something, but I didn't see a single comment here that said he shouldn't be making the game, period. It all very much seem aimed at how he came across as a Human being based on the quotes provided.
“It’s the idea of being able to go back in time and sort of nipping the problem in the bud,” says the game's creator.
<facepalm>
Dude ... if Christianity and Islam had never gotten started, something just as insane would have taken their places. Superstition can't be gotten rid of so easily.
EDIT: Darn it, Darth Wang beat me to the punch by ONE POST!
I prefer the cerebral approach.
I will consider a game wherein the player attempts to reverse the ostensible meanings of randomly-selected bible quotes, by [adding* or] changing a single word.
*NOT! is not an option.
Well, it is his game. He has the right to make it. I support that. But now fundies will be saying, "You see? All atheists are bloodthirsty scoundrels who want to eliminate Christianity! We're being persecuted!"
Sure, murdering people in funny hats is the way to solve problems... (hint: not)
Who thinks this is not fundie, think again. He says it's right to kill people just because of superstiotion.
@ #535632
you speak truth!
Well if the game is over the top I suppose we can treat it like South Park: deadbaby comedy.
But if it is serious about itself, then...
Ok I don't know whether it takes itself seriously or not. But the thing is that some pieces of art and artists exist only to shock, like that Marilyn Manson guy.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
