If your friend smashes your cell phone with a bat, you’re going to be very upset. But if your friend smashes his own cell phone with a bat, fine. As far as you are concerned, your friend gets to do what he wants with his own stuff.
Exactly. His life is his life, and unless he's interfering with mine, and violating my rights (or anyone else's for that matter), he's free to go about his business.
Well, we are all the property of God.
So we're all slaves? Playthings for him? Not a good impression.
He didn’t just buy us, He created us.
Evidence please.
This is why He gets to set limits on us, but we can’t set any limits on Him.
That's debatable. If you mean we can not set rules on him, we can. We define what is a god and what isn't. If you mean we may not set rules, who says? He does? And why should we follow someone who thinks creation = ownership? Who wants rules but not for himself like a cosmic tyrant?
God gives us rules that we must abide by but no one can give God rules.
Can he not give himself rules? Should he not be an example of morality?
Is this unreasonable? Not at all.
Yes, it actually is.
When you find a way to create an entire universe from nothing,
Ah, but it's atheists who believe the universe came from nothing and magic, no?
then perhaps God will agree that you ought to have some special allowances.
Given that he's so jealous, that no other gods are to come before him and that he despises anyone who even shares nearly enough power, I highly doubt he'd so willingly do that. Someone could probably create a universe so great, and behave extremely morally, and he'd still think himself as better.
But until then, it’s pretty ridiculous for you to argue that you and He are on the same level.
No one is arguing that. What they're arguing is for consistency, and a god who doesn't start drowning the world because he's not being worshipped enough. No one argues that a parent and child are equal when they bitch the parent out for setting a bad example.
It’s often our pride that gets all miffed when we observe God breaking His own rules.
No, it's our dislike of hypocrites.
He tells us not to murder, yet every day He’s murdering us by the thousands.
So he's a hypocrite, with some shitty aim.
He tells us not to lie, but He lies to us whenever He feels like it.
Hypocrite ×2.
He tells us not to be jealous, while He says His Name is Jealous.
Hypocrite ×3.
He says we should be humble as we praise His Name forever.
So a hypocrite ×4 with bad aim, lousy morals, the personality of an abusive boyfriend and arrogance on par with Stalin?
How come it’s not a sin when God hogs all the glory?
See, if morality were absolute, then it would be a sin indeed.
How come it’s not wrong for Him to bask in the praises of others?
See above.
Because He’s God.
Is it that simple? No real explanation? Just to proclaim that he's God and can make and break as he pleases?
Gods and humans are completely different beings.
So all this made in his image stuff is bullshit?
Gods don’t have rules.
Because he says so. Right?
If that's your best, then quite frankly I don't want to hear your worst.
Also, if God really is a cosmic tyrant/toddler, then he should be deposed.
But I'm more inclined to think he doesn't exist, and it's the result of people who a) want to keep the population under control and b) to get said population to do whatever they wanted.
