[The NFL is reacting against Arizona's proposed anti-gay bill]
The idiots in the league office are making the same mistake that the gatekeepers in SF/F made about 20 years ago. They wrongly assume that they are in a position to dictate to the public, when in fact it is their position that relies upon the good will of the public.
Tolerance is an evil joke. It is nothing but a stalking horse to impose anti-Christian, anti-Islamic secular values on an unwilling public. It is now eminently clear that the First Amendment was a mistake, considering the way it is being used to attack religion rather than protect it, as was the original intention. Somehow, "Congress shall make no law" has metastasized into "no one anywhere shall be permitted to make a law."
Arizona should respond by telling the NFL that if it pulls the Super Bowl, it will be taxed 100 percent of its revenues in the state, including revenues derived from television income.

I just love how we're supposed to let the market rules, except when private companies do something we don't like, then they get ground under foot. You don't like what the NFL did, stop watching them. It's not like watching football is a civil right.
"Tax is teh evulz... except when it's applied to someone I don't like."
Seriously, think Conservatives would miss a heartbeat if there was a 50% Homosexuality Tax or a 75% Muslim Tax?
"Somehow, "Congress shall make no law" has metastasized into "no one anywhere shall be permitted to make a law." "
Yeah, wonder where that came from.... fourteen... um, fourteenth something or other.... from some piece of paper conservatives profess to love so much... ummmm.....

Bigots, bringing hateful christains and hateful muslims together in harmony.
Shut up, boy, while the grown-ups are talking!
It's the wanting the goodwill of the people that makes the NFL do this, silly.
Tolerance is only evil for egoistical sociopaths. The public is VERY willing to have anti-bigoted secular values imposed on them, instead of outdated bronze-age superstition.
Somehow, "Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion", meant "The government shall not impose religion on its subjects".
Oh well, NFL will have several other states (that will gladly accept all the revenue that "orbits" a super bowl, which Arizona gladly throws away for the opportunity to openly hate gays) behind it when it contest that stupid threat. Or, ya know, not, as the Arizonians got cold feet and backed off at the last second...

Say hello to the Los Angeles Cardinals.

Yeah, I'm sure the football watching citizens of Arizona would be thrilled with a total NFL blackout. I guess they could schedule a straight pride parade every Superbowl Sunday.

Hmm, who needs whom the most? Well, the Cardinals came from Chicago, so...
"Tolerance is an evil joke. It is nothing but a stalking horse to impose anti-Christian, anti-Islamic secular values"
...and in the same breath: 'anti-Islamic ', have you destroyed your own argument, VD.
For those same Islame ists would impose their values - Sharia Law - on you, at gunpoint.
...still, if you should 'get your wish', what's to stop the NFL from hosting said Superbowl elsewhere? After all, considering the massive success of the previous regular season games at Wembley Stadium; how they've sold out (directly from the NFL) in minutes , Commissioner Roger Goodell stated on BBC Radio 5 a couple of years ago that he'd seen the facilities at Wembley & the Olympic Stadium, which fulfill the NFL's criteria for hosting such, and he saw no reason why a future Superbowl shouldn't be held here in the UK. Like I say, considering how American Football has become such a success over here, what's to stop them from doing so...?!
...and that's not taking into account how the NFL are giving serious thought to a UK-based franchise.
But hey: your loss, our gain, VD.
"It is now eminently clear that the First Amendment was a mistake"
Oh, you mean the same ammendment that allows you to spew your idiocy and not be killed over it? Then again, why should I expect someone with the name "voice day" to be literate enough to read the constitution..
Somehow, "Congress shall make no law" has metastasized into "no one anywhere shall be permitted to make a law."
It wasn't done "somehow" - it was done by the 14th Amendment. And it was done deliberately, mainly to prevent the Southern states from overriding the US Constitution by state law after the Civil War.
And IF Arizona were to impose a 100% tax on NFL products, the NFL would remove all of its products from the state.
Interestingly, the NFL is classified as a non-profit trade organization and imposing a 100% tax on the NFL would be illegal.

It is generally accepted in democratic tradition, that if the highest parliament can't pass a certain law, none of the lower ones can either.

1. NFL headquarters are in New York City.
2. The NFL is organized as a nonprofit, nothing to tax there.
3. The only taxable NFL franchise - the Arizona Cardinals - would move to Los Angeles faster than you could say "stop", which would result in several thousand jobs lost directly and much more in connected industries.
"Tolerance is an evil joke."
What kind of twisted human being do you have to be to write something like that? Oh right, a "Christian".
At which point the NFL will pull the Cardinal's NFL franchise and Arizona cable and TV networks will lose all revenues from NFL events when the NFL pulls broadcasting rights. Will gays suffer? No. Will the NFL suffer? No. Will the Arizona economy? Yes.
Sounds like a plan...not.
Snark aside, if Arizona did a stunt like that, it wouldn't encourage business to stay, it would encourage them to leave before more crazy happened. That and just imagine the lawsuits . . .
They wrongly assume that they are in a position to dictate to the public,
Wait, wait, wait. Hold on here a minute.
Do I get you right? You support a law that more or less says you can refuse to do business with people of whom you don't approve, and that's ok, but when somebody doesn't approve of you and doesn't want to do business with you, based on their moral convictions, then that's not ok?
Slight double standard here?
It's just precious when they try to use words they have heard grown ups use. Tax 100% of the revenues? Sure, while they're at it, they can pass a law that the NFL has to change its name to Stupid Dummyheads League and they have to give everyone free footballs forever and ever and ever.
Of course, if Arizona didn't want to look like a bunch of five-year-olds making up rules for its super-secret cardboard box clubhouse, it would do no such thing.
A majority of the public in the US is for same sex marriage and against gay people being discriminated against for being who they are. You've lost, so quit whining and deal with it.
Of course you don't like tolerance or freedom of religion. You want a fascist theocracy based off of your personal view of what Christianity is. I'm glad you're at least being honest. And if Congress can't pass laws that endorse a certain religion why should any lower state legislature be able to?
Taxing the NFL would bee illegal as the are considered a non-profit organization. You fail again.
Confused?
