OK. Prince of Pettiness, King of Genocide, Protector of Slavery, Mighty Misogynist, glory be to Goob.
Yeah, Mrs. Debbie got all over some kid in another thread who made reference to god once and did not capitalize the "G". Of course, this kid didn't capitalize any letters in that post. But Mrs. Debbie was all like "when you refer to our Heavenly Father, He is to be REVERED and RESPECTED at ALL TIMES!!!! You WILL capitalize the name of the ALMIGHTY GOD!!!!1111!!!!!!!" Of course, I'm paraphrasing, but that cunt went off on this kid and posted this rant using alot of all caps.
And the corrected posts had all the pronouns capitalised. Pronouns are not names. In English, names are normally capitalised no matter whom they refer to and pronouns (other than 'I') are not, so capitalising 'God' or 'Yahweh' is normal, not a special sign of respect. Capitalising the pronouns is not just petty and legalistic, it's bad grammar.
LOL! What a nutjob. He sounds pretty fucking paranoid to me.
@Kelly: Fundies usually insist that because he's so fucking amazing, their LORD (sometimes written out in all caps, too) is always capitalized, even when just the antecedent of "You," "He," etc.
"And He said...." Blah, blah, blah. But the He is God or Jeebus, so He's so damned special he breaks the laws of grammar.
Okay.
Vishnu, Krishna, Allah, Odin, Zeus...
Zeus, Apollo, Odin, Loki, Vishnu....
Kord, St. Cuthbert, Vecna, Heironeous, Wee Jas...
Vainamoinen, Nergal, Toyo-Uke-Bime, Ah Puch, Crom, Alvis, Raiden, Cthulhu...
Paladine, Takhisis, Majere, Gilean, Lunitari, Kiri-Jolith...
god.
You'd think that for a god of the Hebrews (which, having a Semitic language, has no capital letters) wouldn't be so worried about something like that. A truly admirable god would care less about capitalization and more about what's in your heart -- not how big your phylacteries are, so to speak.
Clearly, god isn't all that busy because he hasn't cured disease, ended poverty, or brought about world peace.
So he must be up there pissing and moaning about grammatical quibbles.
As a side note, isn't the real name of god taboo in the bible, hence all the "nicknames"ie. Lord, I Am, and so on?
Using the "name" of god is blasphemy, according to your holy book.
Therefore, it is incorrect, both grammatically and theocratically to capitalize a word that cannot be a name.
Nya Nya you lose, stupid.
Well, if bible gawd is so thin-skinned as to send people to eternal torture in hell just for failing to love it sufficiently, it's petty enough to, at the very least, smite someone who has the audacity to use lowercase letters when typing its name. Yet, somehow, that doesn't worry me a bit.
gOD IS ODD!
Well, In reality God is capitalised because it´s a propper name of a singular being like Ted Kennedy, for example. However, it applies to Vishnu or Zeus or Buda or Mohammed(I´m not a follower of those religions. I only apply the rules I learnt in Orthography classes), because, although some are not certified to be real entities, or at least physical, they purport to be an unique being and to hold, thus, a propper name no matter if they are imaginary. And it applies, sorry guys, TO SATAN.
I think most style manuals call for writing "God" when referring to the Judeo-Christian god, just as they call for writing the President, the Queen, the Bible, etc. It has nothing to do with respect - "god" is an English word, apparently derived from a Germanic word for pagan mound spirits, so it's certainly not "the name of the ALMIGHTY GOD!!!!". It's just to distinguish between a specific, well-known entity versus a general reference to any god, president, queen, bible, etc. So the Bro and Mrs. Debbie are right (about God, not the pronouns), but for the wrong reason. Pronouns aren't capitalized in the KJV or RSV Bibles. This practice is a recent fundie invention.
Tom Waits, David Lynch, Alejandro Jodorowsky, David Byrne, Gener, Deaner, Charles Bukowski, Allah, Osiris, Neptune, Joe Pesci ... That's all I can think of, are there more ??
Well, good thing that "god" isn't a name then, it can stay uncapitalized than, right? He didn't say titles we to be capitalized...
Meh'd
Randy can do much better

Singer k.d. lang.
...nope, hasn't done her career any harm. Deucedly good composer, musician & songstress she is, too. Album sales/iTunes downloads guaranteed. Her record company's bosses & shareholders are pleased.
So god's skin is thinner than a subatomic particle's eh, re. how his 'name' is written...?
Yep. That's what I call 'getting your priorities right', bro. Besides, god has her name as suzumiya haruhi - which is how people in Japan have their names - and to my knowledge, in the writing in such, there are no capitalisations used. Your argument is invalid.
