[Concerning God's order to exterminate the Amalekites.]
Their descendants were just as bad Wayne. They were as corrupted as their ancestors.
"Even the little babies? Do you really subscribe to the idea that sin is inherited by generations of people?"
I have never said babies are evil, but they certainly are sliding down the side of the hill that has "sinner" on it.
What do babies do when they are young? They take everything and think it belongs to them. They scream to get their way, they cry for attention etc etc etc.
When a child is taught about God, then they settle down and stop doing bad things. So, children are not perfect angels right out of the womb.
This is EXACTLY what we would expect to see if sin is inherited and passed down from Adam & Eve.

They're not angels or sinners. They're BABIES. They take things because they don't know any better. They scream and cry for attention because they can't talk.
Go join Ronald Williams in the asshole corner.
So... killing babies is fine because they are "natural sinners"
But aborting fetuses is wrong because they have a right to live that is sometimes even stronger than the mother herself ?
I like your logic buddy...
Wow, a fundie that has no empathy for anyone, to the point that he's unable to understand the simple motivation even of infants.
... Why am I not surprised?
So are you saying that, say, autistic people are evil? They certainly have a hard time with the world outside their own existence. What about severely mentally impaired people? You're never going to be able to teach them about god, so are they also destined to be eternally sliding down the evil slope?
"What do babies do when they are young? They take everything and think it belongs to them. They scream to get their way, they cry for attention etc etc etc."
That's what babies and small children do , you idiot.
"When a child is taught about God, then they settle down and stop doing bad things."
Obviously you're not a parent.
"This is EXACTLY what we would expect to see if sin is inherited and passed down from Adam & Eve."
People like you scare me.
"We're all born innocent - abortion must be outlawed! "
"We're all born evil and immersed in sin - that's why babies cry! "
Which is it; innocent and deserving of preservation (even at the expense of the mother) or sinning and doomed?
I still think that Self-Mutation is a Poe, but this line of thought comes up enough to deserve a response.
According to Christian dogma, ALL people are corrupt from birth. To respond to the various genocides in the bible by saying, "it's okay, they were bad," ignores that fundamental point. The biblical god's decision to wipe out, or to order the wiping out, of entire populations because they were evil, ignores the dogma that the survivors/perpetrators were just as evil as the victims. Therefore, god's decision to slaughter certain populations and not other is, by definition, arbitrary.
So why does a casual, arbitrary murderer deserve praise?
No contradiction at all. Women were inherently evil because their vulvas were sin-magnets. Pregnancy and childbearing were the Lard's punishment for having these sin-magnets, and they weren't to be allowed to escape their punishment of occupation by this devilish spawn. But because the spawn was so devilish, neither should one be deceived by its appearance of innocence into treating it tenderly, nor honoring the mother for bringing it into the world. The ancient church fathers justified cruelty to both women and children through exactly this argument, and the modern ones are getting more and more forthcoming about it.
So, by your logic, we should exterminate the humankind. You know, those kids will never reach adulthood.
neurologists would argue that the lack of mental development makes them extremely simple minded, and unable to understand or differentiate right from wrong, mine from your, etc.
they only know they WANT that shiny thing. they dont understand the concept of ownership
"And ma'am, your reason for wanting an abortion?"
"Well, I know my expecting baby is just sliding down the side of the hill that has 'sinner' on it. Plus, babies are inherently selfish, taking everything and thinking it belongs to them, screaming to get their way, etc. I feel abortion is the best path. My religion says children are inherently evil, so I know God would want me to do this."
> What do babies do when they are young? They take everything and think it belongs to them. They scream to get their way, they cry for attention etc etc etc.
Other fundies are claiming Christianity is natural, intuitive, everyone is born a theist and God has given everyone, from birth, a deep-seated understanding of Christian morality.
Are you saying that *gasp* the evidence contradicts this?
I have never said babies are evil
Except you are saying exactly that.
I hope you don't have kids.
"When a child is taught about God, then they settle down and stop doing bad things."
So, Self-Mutation, let's test this hypothesis. Let's go to the local jail and find out how many were taught about God.
Some just aren't suited to parenthood.
Infants and small children don't yet know or even understand what's acceptable and what's not. Until they have developed sufficiently, they aren't even capable. They have little, if any, control over their own emotions, and frankly, they often can't articulate what they need in any other way except by crying. It's no more "evil" than the barking of a dog is "evil."
I'll echo what other people in this thread have said. I hope you never have children of your own, and if you do, I hope they get out of from under your thumb as fast as possible.
I don't believe in original sin but babies are far from innocent.
Studies show babies are capable of prejudice.
Of course that doesn't make it right. I hope someday we can gene therapy innate prejudice away(we may still have to deal with learned prejudice though).
Hah!!! So much for pro-life and all life is sacred, huh? Oh wait, they're only pro-life if the baby is not born yet, otherwise they hate your guts and don't care if you get healthcare or not.
@ The Reasonator:
Distasteful as it is, prejudice is very useful to humans. We need it as a safeguard against blind trust. People without prejudice, or prejudiced for/against the wrong group are the ones who end up hurt (physically, emotionally, financially...).
You do know that babies of good Christian parents act the same way, don't you?
I guess it wouldn't matter if I pointed out where in the bible God says that he would not pass the sins of the father onto his children.
What do babies do when they are young? They take everything and think it belongs to them. They scream to get their way, they cry for attention etc etc etc.
I think I just figured it out. You hate small children because as a Republican you can't stand to share or let someone else get their way.
Nah, babies are evil. Not for any religious reasons, but yeah.
lol at this person still trying to insist that belief in god results in people not being bad. That has never worked. Ever.
We could fill an entire site with "SelfMutation Says The Darndest Things". Dude is a goldmine.
The impression I get is that he has no idea what he's doing. He wasn't taught how to think for himself and can't see the consequences of his own arguments.
"Their descendants were just as bad Wayne. They were as corrupted as their ancestors."
But the Bible says everyone's corrupt? Why pick on the Amalekites?
"When a child is taught about God, then they settle down and stop doing bad things."
That's why the prisons are packed with Christians, huh?
"When a child is taught about God, then they settle down and stop doing bad things."
Hmmm, sounds a lot like a fairy-tale, doesn't it?
While adoption is, of course, impossible.
More seriously, did they just argue killing babies is a positive good?
What do babies do when they are young? They take everything and think it belongs to them. They scream to get their way, they cry for attention etc etc etc.
So if babies were perfect angels right out of the womb, what do you imagine they'd do when they were hungry or need changing or were sick? Send mom a text message on their iPhone?
What a moron.
Their descendants were just as bad Wayne. They were as corrupted as their ancestors.
Just like the Church.
What do babies do when they are young? They take everything and think it belongs to them. They scream to get their way, they cry for attention etc etc etc.
Just like the Church.
When a child is taught about God, then they settle down and stop doing bad things.
Just like the... oh, wait a second...
How is that "evil"? So babies are selfish. They just want food and attention, just basic needs; it's not like they're scamming other people out of their money. Plus, if you were literally incapable of meeting your own needs or providing for yourself, you'd probably scream too, because you'd want to be damn sure that those needs were met by someone.
OMG!!! FINALLY I GET IT!!! You lose the right to life the moment you are born!!! You gain it again by getting terminally ill!!! I finally figured out how -
...Well sorry, real life doesn't work like that.
...I think children are born wanting because that's all they can think off. They take time to devolp and gain the very ability to think of the complexities of life.
This very innocence, and inability to learn of what is apparently 'wrong'(according to whoever) is what makes up early life. As they grow older, and more capable of understanding, you should try to explain, to teach.
The children do not inherit sin at all, they simply learn to it, but all children can be taught. But it is up to them if they want to be. If they are but children, but babes, are they really corrupt when you get them? If they are at all, don't you realize you can help, and not throught death or cruelty?
I may be religious, but both our relgion AND science teaches us children really are innocent. Those that do not understand cannot sin, for they know nothing better. They can't learn anything better young because they cannot understand yet for quite a bit.
They scream and cry so they can get what they need. They may keep you up at night, but they are gentle creatures, still a blank slate that will learn overtime; by their own experiences.
And I'd feel bad for whatever child learned from YOU. Though I'd less call it learning and more repeating, as you'll probably torture the kid until
Confused?
