If someone is proposing a [scholarly] book about Christianity and denies that Jesus is the Christ, or denies that Jesus ever made the claim to be divine, I would put the book down and find another book.

Big surprise as putting books down is a Rapturites MO.
Here's a cute idea for you lot though: How about you read the book that made those claims in the first place? From beginning to end, in order, not hopping around as your churchs have trained you to do, not ignoring most the books within.
Then you could even try to show your fellow Rapturewaiters where the Fundie concept of the Rapture is in the Bible. Not one of you have managed that yet
Yeah, read your Bible, from cover to cover, please. The world will have more atheists afterwards.
I tried to read Leviticus once. It was the most boring thing I have ever read, even the phone book is more interesting than that repetitive drivel.
"or denies that Jesus ever made the claim to be divine"
I don't know about a scholarly book, but I know the Bible makes no mention of Jesus claiming he was divine. Or perhaps I am mistaken in thinking that that was only decided long after his supposed death?
No? Never heard of the Nicene Creed of 325???
Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are all forgeries.
Jesus never existed.
And seeker42 is an idiot.
Dear Fundies,
Please take note of the fact that you do not have to believe everything you read in a book or see on a screen. It is entirely possible for normal human beings to read or see or hear something, think about it and then decide to disagree with it. In fact, this progress helps to test the truth of one’s opinion and to redefine them.
It is similar to this “fiction” thing we keep on telling you about and you always get wrong.
If you have to put on blinders and stick your fingers in your ears to keep your faith, your faith is woefully weak.
Best regards

Well, yes, of course. ‘Scholarly’ is a code word. It means ‘an effort to find the actual truth.’
You would much rather a security blanket that just confirms your cherished falsehoods at the expense of historical accuracy.
I mean, gosh, if they could get a time machine, and show that Jesus was REAL, and died on the cross, and no one could dispute that, but he was a short, dark Semite, and never said anything he’s quoted as saying, you guys would burn down the school that developed time travel.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
