I read a news story about twenty-something politicians around the world who have officially changed their names to Barack Obama. That really raises the bar high for the Antichrist, whenever he shows up. He'll have to somehow be even more charismatic than Obama.

This actually happened! In Brazil, where apparently a loophole in the election laws is taken advantage of, and this year, everyone's calling themselves 'Obama', hoping to get votes from people who don't know / particularly care about what country they're in. "Oh, I hearda that Obama guy, he's gonna fix that dagnabbin Bush!"

Call me a cynical English bastard, but my opinion of Obama is plummeting..

First there was his policy of banning lobbyists. His inauguration ceremony is being broadcast using exclusively microsoft silverlight. mmm, suck that lobbyist cock.

He set up "change.gov" with his list of changes.. that list has been getting mysteriously shorter.. Not because of Obama, more to the point of the fact that after only 4 years in government, he's finally finding out the fact that a president has fuck all power when the party disagrees with him.

He's already sounding like JFK.. the messiah of American politics. 3 years later, he's done fuck all (due to party differences) except shag an A-list celebrity and get assassinated.

As for A-lists.. Bruce Springsteen, U2 and Beyonce (fur-wearing) Knowles?!!?!!? Even George Bush had a more modest ceremony before he signed in and proceeded to blow half the planet up.

And he's taking train rides from Philadelphia. Obama mate.. You're not even in power yet. You sign in tomorrow. First, PROVE YOURSELF as a good president, THEN start comparing yourself to Lincoln..

Jesus.. God help Joe Biden who's got to take his rhetoric and actually use his experience to make Obama's messianic rhetoric reality, otherwise this will be the most ineffectual presidency ever.

And the republicans will use the U2 shit against him BIG TIME in 4 years.

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot before you ever got into office.

Do your fucking job Obama.. I don't envy you.. you have to wake up to a failed economy, 2 wars, and a middle east that hates you. Good luck. Welcome to the real world.

Hey, I'm with you about rock concert-type things. If Swedish politicians did something like that we would have no respect for them whatsoever.

But it seems like stuff like that has become almost necessary in American politics, and it seems that you judge him a bit too sharply for it. And it seems like your repeated cries about "He'll be as ineffectual as JFK!" is something you've derived from the fact that he had some bands at his inauguration. At least you mention the two together, but I don't see the connection. Yes, maybe it was gaudy and maybe it looks unprofessional, but it says nothing at all about his ability to be president.

Anyway, "I sure as hell hope that everything he wrote in "The Audacity of Hope" comes true, otherwise, you're looking at another ineffectual JFK."?
So, if not absolutely everything he said comes true, he'll be an ineffectual president? That are some high standards. I would suspect that no politician in the history of democracy has been able to keep all their campaign promises.

Personally I'm just very happy that he doesn't seem to be another Bush by any stretch of the imagination. Bush drove a country to the brink of ruin, bombed a couple of other countries and did various illegal and inhumane things against people. Obama will be better than that, at least.

He's no miracle worker though, and I don't know anyone, not even the most devoted of his fans, who think that he is, or that he is some sort of messianic figure. He has a lot of good ideas, and if he can put some of them in action and clean up the mess left for him he'll have done a good job.

And frankly we have no idea if he'll do a good job or not, I think it might be a tad bit early to judge that. So let's wait, see and judge a bit later, m'kay?
