[Regarding a new decree by the Vatican which explicitly bars the ordination of women.]
The decree was published Thursday by Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano, which in a headline called the ordination of women a "crime."
The congregation said it acted to "preserve the nature and validity of the sacrament" of ordination.
The decree — signed by the congregation's head, American Cardinal William Levada — said anyone trying to ordain a woman and any woman who attempts to receive the ordination would incur automatic excommunication.

Frankly, it's their religion. They can run it by any rules they want, and kick out whoever they want.
And anyone who doesn't agree with it is free to leave it, too.
Pretty damn stupid way to run it, though.
Funny, because priests who rape children aren't automatically excommunicated.
Apparently, letting a girl into the boys' club is a bigger deal than child rape. Yeah, real moral authorities, these assholes.

Yeah, yeah. Give it three or four hundred years and you'll be ordaining them left and right. It used to also be a "crime" to be an atheist, think the earth orbited the sun or not believe a corpse came back to life after rotting for three days. Times change and you guys eventually catch up. You're just a bit slow about it.

MWM atheist seeks WF for long walks on the beach, slow tender kisses, and ordination games. Disease and delusion free--expect the same.
James: It's worth noting that not only was Paul a victim of mistranslation and scribal errors (whether deliberate or accidental, I'm not quite sure in most cases), but only seven of his books are genuine: Romans, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Philippians, 1 Thessalonians and Philemon. It's been confirmed that Paul did not write 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, or Titus.
I'm wondering in which of the epistles credited to him Paul says men and wnmen are equal and in which Paul says that women shouldn't speak in church.
This really isn't a fundie quote. The Roman Catholic church hasn't allowed women to be Priests since it started. Women can be nuns however, and that's how it has been. It's tradition.
Comparing this to quotes like "A DEAD ATHEIST IS THE BEST ATHEIST" is asinine.
Ah, the Roman Catholic church, backpedaling into the dark ages!
(hoping that it will bring them back to real, wordly, power)
btw. I don't really see how you can say this is not fundy.
well that fucks up the eucumenical movement
I find it amusing that the church can ordain and support boy molesters, drunks, the corrupt, etc etc
but a pair of tits makes you ineligible

Because women are inherently dirty and sinful, and corrupt everything they touch, especially that which has been created by the pure and holy penis owners of the Ol' Boys Club, who like to diddle youngsters on weekends. Thats fine, though. However, owning a vagina is baaaad.
The refusal to ordain women doesn't seem to have any scriptural support beyond noting that all the disciples were men and that in performing the Eucharist, the priest represents Christ, who was a man. They claim Jesus could have chosen women as disciples but didn't. They give a weak argument to the effect that Jesus wasn't simply conforming to the tradition of the times by doing this, because he himself went against convention and treated women as equals (insert various scriptural examples ...). Sounds like a lot of BS, as various other sects have noted.
Why? Are women less likely to molest little boys? Are they more likely to report a priest who molests little boys?
Just what is it you assholes fear?
Some of you fucking hypocrtits on this website are just as hateful as these quotes. God most of you are bigoted asshats. I mean seroulsy. I've seen qoutes on this board where a woman supposed has spiritual expirence, and you guys just rip her to shreads.
Just why would any self-respecting woman want to become a Catholic priestess? I'd think that a woman wishing to be ordained in the RCC is not entirely unlike a black man aspiring to become Imperial Wizard in the KKK.
#556103: what has grammar and correct spelling ever done against you, that you should treat them with such repulsive cruelty?
Does the Catholic Church in Europe even wonder anymore why it's numbers are dwindling?
Unfortunately, I'm sure idea like this are alive and well in places like South America and Africa. Nothing like enforced gender roles to breed more of the flock!
Good for you, Europe!
(Yes, I'm a woman, in case I wasn't obvious enough about it.)
No protesting here. Hopefully, this is going to just reinforce what a giant load of bigoted, cruel, oppressive, harmful load of crap that religion really is. The closets of religion need to be busted wide open, and fortunately for us, religion often does a fine job of it without anyone's help.

So, because it's 'tradition', we shouldn't call bullshit on religious misogyny?
I'm going to say this slowly and clearly, so you understand exactly how I feel about it:
Fuck. That. Shit.
As Arch-Bishop of the Free Catholic church that.. I just formed... I hereby reverse this decree.
As a former Catholic I have decided to reverse all stupid Catholic decrees.
Just the new ones. I really don't think I'll live long enough to go through the backlog.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, "Fuck the Catholic Church and the horse it rode in on".
They have nothing relevant to say in the 21st century and the sooner they go extinct the better for humankind.
I had my fill of their poison when I was growing up.
Personally, I would love to be excommunicated. I'd frame the fucking the decree.
Confused?
