[Parents for Truth, a new fundie abstinence-only education group, plans to 'fight' comprehensive sex education.]
Devon Williams:
"The National Abstinence Education Association (NAEA) has launched a national campaign to educate parents about the harmful information their children are often exposed to in so-called “comprehensive” sex-education classes at school.
Parents for Truth will equip parents to fight "comprehensive" sex ed in their children’s schools and promote abstinence-focused sex education."

Valerie Huber:
"'Comprehensive' sex education is often very graphic and explicit,” ... “It is not age-appropriate, and it actually encourages sexual activities that put teens at risk for not only disease, but a host of other consequences."

I bet not one of these people has ever sat through an actual sex-ed course. The classes always tell students that the #1 method to remain STD-free (including babies!) is to be abstinent. The difference between such courses and the Fundie-style offering is that the former style isn't stupid enough to think that kids, particularly teenagers, will simply accept that at face value. They know kids are going to experiment no matter what they're taught, so they provide kids important knowledge to help keep them safe.
1. Sex education classes do not use The Kama Sutra as a textbook! They're not that kind of "comprehensive."
2. Where safety is concerned, abstinence is stressed as the Best Policy. And second-best is monogamy in a long-term (or permanent) loving relationship.
3. Contraception is presented and described so it can be used properly and effectively if (or when) they don't abstain. It's like equipping your house with smoke detectors and fire extinguishers; you're not advocating arson around, but you want to be able to minimize the potential for damage if a fire occurs.

I refuse to believe there are people in this world that are truly and honestly this ignorant.
Sex can lead to pregnancy, disease and a host of emotional issues. Yes, that is a known fact.
Men and women are created to have sex and at puberty the body becomes ready. Emotionally, we know young kids are not ready and we try to keep them from sex until they are older and wiser. But, the body wants what the body wants. We are biologically made to have sex.
Why not prepare these future adults to behave responsibly when acting upon their natural instincts? Trying to repress them causes more harm then good.
I'd rather have a 12 year old learn the facts of life and how to be prepared than have an ignorant 15 year old end up pregnant, or worse.
Knowledge is power. In all things.
Let me guess? Your version of "graphic and explicit" means anything that mentions the words "vagina", "penis", "intercourse", and "condoms".
"...not age-appropriate"... hmmm. I was 11 when we had sex education on school. That's right. Eleven. Our teacher explained everything and showed us few images. Straight to the point. No nonsense. "This is how babies are made."
Teacher concluded the lesson by saying that we are still too young to actually have sex and we should wait 3-4 years before even thinking of doing it.
Your plan works 100% of the time, 5% of the time.
Condoms work 95% of the time, 80% of the time.
Shut up.

“...it actually encourages sexual activities that put teens at risk for not only disease, but a host of other consequences."
Only the really stupid ones.
I'll be damned if you idiots will get to dictate what I do and do not teach my daughter about sex. You want to gamble with your children's health/lives? That's your business. Me, I'd rather keep her safe, thanks.
Idiots.
"'Comprehensive' sex education . . .put teens at risk for not only disease, but a host of other consequences"
Funny how those concequences happen more often in fundie controlled areas.
Happy birthday, Junior. Here's a brand new .44 magnum and plenty of ammunition.
What?
No, no, you don't have to know anything about it. Just take it along with you and have a good time.
Thats why the Bible belt has the largest teen pregnancies rate and the highest incest rate in the free world.
Oh, wait...Your just wrong.
After the dismal failure of your "abstinance only" sex-uned courses have led to increases in STDs and pregnancies and hugely under-educated teens, rather than except your incompetence and total lack of knowledge of young people, you now denigrate programs that were actually successful because they don't fit your fundie beliefs. Fuckus on Family apparently believes that the ten commandments only apply to others, and seem to have no knowledge of what commandment #9 means! It's the one about LYING!!!!!!
If kids don't already have an inkling of the "ins and outs" (sorry, couldn't help myself) of sex by the time they are 11 or 12 then they NEED comprehensive sex education. I can guarantee that they are curious. Would you rather they learn on their own with some "hands-on" experimentation and no "theory" to guide them?
What would you tell your son if he came to you and asked why his "thingy" keeps getting hard? (if you have your way he'd never hear the word "penis") No doubt you'd either dodge the question, and thereby YOUR responsibility as a parent, or you'd make him ashamed of his body and himself for asking such a question.
Whenever this subject comes up I think of Elias from Clerks 2 and Pillow Pants, the pussy troll.
What I learned in sex ed.
-The names for body parts that made all the guys in my class snicker uncontrollably.
-The various STDs out there, how you can get them, and what the treatments ares.
-Which forms of birth control work, with abstinence always stressed as being 100% baby and STD free.
-Fetal development.
And that's it. It's clear that the people who rally against sex ed have no idea what it's actually about.
Uh, no. I had the comprehensive sex-ed, and it made me think about whether or not I was ready to be responsible and mature, and take that step. I ended up waiting until the age of 18. Now... well, now I want to spend a whole day in bed with my mate, doing things that'd probably make these dumb cunts die of shock.
Comprehensive education focuses on abstinence too. The difference is it's also teaches you what to do when you no longer abstain, to not get into trouble. Trouble like unwanted pregnancies, STDs, pedophiles, trafficking, rape, etc.
Teenagers have just as much sex, whatever education they have received. The ones who have had comprehensive education often use condoms, IUDs and the pill. The ones who have had abstinence-only education often get pregnant and catch STDs.
Confused?
