God is never arbitrary. He always has a good reason for what He does. Sometimes He allows us to understand the reason. (But He is under no obligation to share that reason with us.)

How are we supposed to know what God considers immoral then? If we "sin" without knowing that what we're doing is wrong, then how can we be held accountable? Oh, and before you start, many hold contradictory stances on passages from the Babble, so it seems even the faithful don't totally agree on the meaning of religious scripture.
So when God does things that appear to be just on his whims, there's the airtight defence that he's also feeling too haughty to bother explaining his perfectly valid reasons.
An all-loving, powerful and intelligent god, but just can't be bothered to explain some of his questionable activities to the objects of his love.
Jason... you've just said that God is never arbitrary... but that he's arbitrary.
Seriously... does God do things for any reason OTHER than what He thinks is right? No? THEN IT'S FUCKING ARBITRARY YOU DENSE MOTHERFUCKER!!!
I mean, God and his actions fit the first 4 definitions of the fucking word... the only one it doesn't fit is the mathematical definition!
Learn what words fucking well mean before vomiting your stupidity... it might make you look less of a moron!
In other words, Jason, a simple analysis of scriptures proves the character of Yahweh to be very arbitrary, but you're afraid to realize that because you think you'll be sent to the Ministry of Love. Typical.
He is if you want me to give a fuck what he says. Not just reasons, either, good reasons. Anything less is just an insult to the intelligence of the creature he supposedly understands better than anyone.
You do know that this is just a cop-out because you can't explain why God would allow certain things to happen, don't you? I used to tell myself things like that when I was religious, too. But eventually I realized I was lying to myself.

When you say "good" reason, you are admitting that morality has a rational basis apart from God after all. Otherwise "good" would be arbitrarily whatever God does.
Actually, Lisle does say that, though he isn't able to recognize this arbitrary thinking when he does it:

Lisle says, quoting me (I was arguing with him with this very screen name) at first:
"Remember Joseph saying that it would be immoral to NOT kill a baby if god commanded it?"
[Dr. Lisle: Joseph is right. What God commands is necessarily right. Any other definition of morality is ultimately arbitrary and therefore logically unjustified.]
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
