Having a happy COLUMBUS DAY. If you think you're a descendent of interlopers, then get the fuck out. This was not a nation until Europeans created it. Before then, it was just a land mass.

1. Columbus didn't even reach the U.S.A. That was Leif Erickson.
2. Yes, we are a bunch of interlopers. The Native American population was here long before we were. That's why they're called "Native American".
Well, aren't you a sweetie. I assume your ancestors were on the Niña, the Pinta, or the Santa Maria ....but wait: they'd be living in the Caribbean if that was the case, fishing and cracking coconuts.

Even if this were true (it isn't), it wouldn't justify or erase what the Europeans (including Columbus)did to the natives (guns, germs, and steel, anyone?)

You don't get to decide who does or doesn't live here. Think about that while you spend your holiday showing your ass online.
I'd be curious to know how far back in the OP's family tree we'd have to go to find the immigrants. Since s/he didn't list a tribe, some of those "interlopers" decided they were worthy of coming in. Just more of the "my family's here, so let's slam the door on anyone else" attitude.
Actually, it was several nations. With organization, economies, trade, organized leadership, culture...
But, of course, since they aren't white Europeans, I suppose none of that counts. Fuck you with a cactus.
Also, does anyone celebrate Columbus Day besides banks? I don't even remember what month it's in anymore.
@Azereaux: I think public-sector employees do as well.
I'm not sure when Columbus Day became a holiday, but it wouldn't surprise me to find out that it was something cooked up during the Cold War to somehow prove the US wasn't being run by Communists or something.
Idk, I kind of have mixed feelings about the holiday. It is nice to have a day off, though, whatever the reason.
Confused?
