“If an atheist were the President, would he have cried?”
I’m an atheist. I didn’t attend this ceremony, but i have gotten more than a little teary-eyed at other events that included recounting of soldiers’, sailors’ and Marines’ sacrifices.
They took the same oath i did and they died for their comrades. I couldn’t hope to do more in the service of my fellow servicemen and -women.
And after 9/11, everyone remembered the twin towers but only a few remembered the Pentagon. I was one, and I grieved those deaths as much as any of the others.
“I believe President Bush was overcome with emotion because of his abiding faith and the tremendous weight of accountability he has, before God, as Commander-in-Chief.”
‘Kay. No skin off my knuckles whether you’re right or wrong. It could also have been an act. Again, pristine knucles.
“A true atheist would surely have sat emotionless through such a ceremony.”
You can go fuck a furnace.
“What's the point of getting all emotional about the untimely death of a higher form of mammal?”
We’re a gregarious species and another member of our gene pool is lost. That is a loss we all share.
Also, the military promotes teamwork. A unit of our team is harmed. That’s a loss that affect all of us in uniform.
On the other hand, as an atheist, i don’t have to wonder if it’s okay to mourn someone because he worshiped the wrong god, or the right god in the wrong way, or the right god, in the right way, but no intensely enough.
"The fact is, most atheists are not God-deniers, they are God-haters.”
Okay, NOW wonder if I’ll shed a tear for YOUR lying ass if you get hit by a bus right in front of me. G’head. Ask.
"And their world-view disqualifies them to lead a Christian nation.”
No, really, it’s YOUR world-view that projects this Hollywood Atheist caricature onto atheists without any actual basis in fact.
I’m sure we’ve had atheists in the white house, it’s just that they had to play Christain to not give their opponents an easy mudball to throw.
