Being a atheist is like treading water, your not really going anywhere and if you stop moving your gonna drift into terrible unkown depths of despair!

And Fundamentalism is like drowning, while thinking that Jesus, in a moment of last-second B-movie heroics, is going to dive down, drag you to safety, and then perform CPR.
Huh?
What the fuck?
Dosva, you obviously are not an atheist, and you obviously have never met an atheist.
Ps, work on your spelling.
WHY are all the fundies convinced that all atheists have nothing to live for?
Because the smart ones at least must realize in some small compartment of their brains that we are probably right and teir religion is probably nonsense and that scares them so they have to convince themelves that we are just all miserable angry bitter people that "hate" God.
Vaguely sorta accurate, I think, but Dosva misses a vital point: human beings are meant to think. If you choose Godlessness, you choose a life without overarching authority, which means that you have to give consideration to your actions every step of the way. Believe it or not, this is not at all a bad thing -- it's just how it's supposed to be.
Now despair? I don't know. Unless you abandon any pretense of living a productive life, embrace nihilism, and ride it all the way down to the abyss, despair isn't likely to be the dominant component of a godless life.
As a diver, I resent the implication that depth = despair.
Dosva, just get narced once or twice at depth...the last thing you will feel is despair! [Come to think of it.,..it could well be the last thing you ever think of...]
As an athiest, I just don't even bother about thinking about your sort anymore.
So tell me, how many atheists do you really know. I am guessing that you know the fundamentalist stereotypes of atheists very well, but how many do you know as individuals or, dare I say, as friends? Get a clue, then get back to us.
Okay, let's assume you're analogy is correct. If an atheist is treading water, I'm going to assume that a religous person would be swimming. Either way if you stop moving you're going to drown. So, by your own analogy, ultimately, what's the difference?
You can move quite effectivly treading water. Especially when you're not anchored by Christian dogma or swimming against the current of Christian ignorance.
And remember, Atheists are only trying to reach the land again, where we came from, you lot are reaching for the sky.
But the thing is, even IF I ever drift into despair, i'll seek help from a therapist.
I won't just pray for the invisible sky fairy to fix me.
I won't just accept that I'm scum and deserve to be in despair because we're all scum and it's just the invisible sky fairy's plan.
I won't blame the churches using the wrong Word Of SkyFairy translation as the cause of my despair...
“Being a”
an
“atheist is like treading water, your”
You’re
“not really going anywhere and if you stop moving your”
you’re
“gonna drift into terrible unkown depths of despair!”
if you stop treading, you sink, not drift.
On the other hand, I don’t see anything on the horizon to swim TOWARDS. YOU say there’s a destintation over there, but why would i believe you?
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
