I agree with your thoughts that our legal system is not very good:kookoo: Wealthy individuals definatley have more advantages in the United States court systems than that of the average person. Most death row inmates that have thier sentences overturned get the decision reversed due to a technicality, not because of their innocense:nono: There are so many examples of "known" killers that are still on death row and will most likely die of old age before their execution can be carried out. I advocate a very swift death penalty in all cases of murder, but I too see the problem being raised by our unfair justice system. A question I would ask, is it better to let hundreds of killers live or for one innocent person to be put to death.
I think it is worse to let the hundreds of killers live!

Yeah, it's one of those cases where it's no very good, but it's better than most.

True.

"Most?" You'll need to cite some sources for me to go that far, though some DO get off on "technicalities." Of course, what one considers a technicality largely depends upon whether on is the defenant or the plaintiff.

Well, I'm glad you see that. The reason for so much time and so many appeals is to avoid executions of persons who are actually not guilty.

Yes, it is better to let hundreds of killers live in prison, than to execute one innocent person. Hands down. No question.

I bet you would change your mind in a hurry were that innocent person to be you.
The reason that executions aren't swift and can linger in the courts for years is precisely because we don't want to execute an innocent person.
It has happened. It will probably happen again, although I hope not.
How much evidence will you require for a death penalty, AROTO? If it's to be as swift as possible, surely not everything can be examined and used in a sober decision. You'd probably just get baseless accusations, like in the Salem Witch Trials.
Just for your information, standing on a streetcorner screaming "Witch!" at people is an inadequate basis for a system of justice.
It's easy for you to say that, sitting there typing away at your computer, a free man.
Come back and say it again when you are the "one innocent person" being put to death. Then maybe I'll listen to you.

The Founding Fathers explicity disagree with you. They specifically stated that freedom and personal liberty was such an important thing to protect that it was better that the guilty occasionally go free than that innocent people be wrongly punished, so the system is set up to guard against that as much as possible (though it still screws up in this way sometimes). I, too, wish our justice system were foolproof; but such does not exist, and I can live with most of the problems this one has.

It's worse to let the hundreds of killers live, than to kill one innocent person. Unless, of course, you are the innocent person, then it would be bad.
And that's why you need to read more Superman and less Wolverine, kiddo.
You know, up until the part about mass murder, I was agreeing with the kid. Once again, we see that line between normal and fundie defined a bit more clearly.
Last time I checked, the vast majority of the civilized world thinks of this practice as pretty backward. Hell, last I checked, a reasonable number of states thought this was pretty backward.

Are you trying to say most people on death row have a lot of money?
A question I would ask, is it better to let hundreds of killers live or for one innocent person to be put to death.
That's the question that has led most of those who do not support the death penalty to their conclusions.
That you can reach the opposite answer is absolutely frightening.
Confused?
