I hope this question doesn't offend either of you, but would you be angered if there were straight-pride rallies and parades?
[and her next response after someone told her that the question is just like asking blacks if they would be angered by white pride celebrations]
I just think gay pride is silly. But I think all pride is silly. Silly is a stupid word but it illustrates stupidity in a way other words cannot.

Not inherently fundie at all.
I can certainly see myself agreeing with this, depending on the context. She isn't saying homosexuality is bad; not here, anyway. What I understand from this quote is that she thinks the "pride" part - and only the "pride" part - is pointless.
"But I think all pride is silly.
Now, if there's more to her opinion than that, then quote it and we'll see. Otherwise, this is out of place IMHO.
EDIT: and how the hell did you conclude she's religious from this quote?! I really hope I'm missing something, otherwise you're all being very quick to judge here.

- certainly not. Every street of every town, every day is a straight parade - or hadn't you noticed?

I just think gay pride is silly.
- And your reason would be?
But I think all pride is silly. Silly is a stupid word but it illustrates stupidity in a way other words cannot.
- ALL pride is silly? I am proud of my parents for bringing me up decently in very trying times. I am proud of my personal achievements in education and other areas of life. I am happy to say I am proud of who I am because I worked for it, including being well balanced, holding a high and responsible job, being together with my other half for 36 years etc. And I did this against the odds, being a gay man in a world that very often was vindictive and hostile. So yes, if people want to assert their valid self-value, then I am all for it, for all that I may not choose to actively participate. I also am in favour of people having a good time and being silly on occations. Call it the function of the Jester. But to you lot the Jester means the devil - sadly your own inner demons distorting your vision of the world: - and He saw that it was GOOD! Or is that not in your bible?
That would be kinda awesome.
but we're still the majority, so it's not like we need to march around waving signs like, "I like women and that's all right"
Not fundie, but in fact a great idea, in my opinion.
I'm gay, but I'd be absolutely in favour of straight pride parades. I think people, regardless of their orientation, celebrate their sexuality far too seldom. I say, bring on the straight parades, get out there, friends on the "other side of the aisle" and party good and hard. I'd sure be there and cheer you on, guys and girls!
And maybe, one day, we can actually all come together, straight, gay, bi, or whatever and have a proper "human pride". Until then... make more love, and party more, whoever you are.
Ah, well, she had a good point and it really didn't get answered. If someone decided to have a "Traditional Values" day everyone would go ballistic. If you want to have fairness it has to be fair all around.
"a gay pride is about people accepting others & bringing people together, a straight parade won't do that.
This isn't very fundie though."
What I've seen of gay pride parades, they seem to be about celebrating sexuality and standing out. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but that's what I've seen.
"if there were straight-pride rallies and parades"
You pretty much do...its just expressed one television program, one poster, one wedding announcement, and one PDA at a time. You can understand, given that, why they want their paltry parades in return, right?
"I just think gay pride is silly"
No. It is a necessary compensation and attempt to lift up the spirits of an otherwise ignored and suppressed group.
I actually agree with her, kind of. You shouldn't be proud of being gay, straight, black, white, male, female, etc. You shouldn't be ashamed, either. They're simply not qualities that anyone should tie to self esteem, since they are totally out of anybody's control. Accidents of birth.
That being said, I do see a practical value in the Gay Pride movement. They've been made to feel ashamed of being gay for so long, they need to counteract that. So until homosexuality is accepted and not made to be a condition to be ashamed of, I'm okay with Gay Pride parades.
wow, I can't believe I ended up on this site. Fun stuff, but anywho I can understand how this quote looks like I lack proper mental faculties. The language I used was sort of in jest. Hell, I joke around, and I don't expect everything I say to be scrutinized by one !@#$%^& who seems sort of obsessed with this site. I actually am a devout Christian (the person who submitted this apparently knows that I am), but would hardly consider myself a fundie.
peace
Confused?
