I'm so sick of Columbus being attacked. He was great man, great explorer and someone that only wanted the best for the people of lands he came in contact with.
The left is determined to rewrite history and demonize white people. It's simply sick. And, the left wonders why it keeps getting hammered at the ballot box.

It wasn't just the left. The contemporary Bartholomeus de las Casas actually wrote the history books on Columbus, and he was not merciful in his portrayal of his tenure over Hispaniola. And really, when you are imprisoned by Queen Isabella for your cruel treatment of non-christians, you must be even worse than the Spanish Inquisition.
Columbus was an opportunist whose prime concern was gaining access to the potential of trade with Asia and later through the Americas. He made associations with natives, sometimes positively, but he kept slaves. Whether he was a hero or villain is up to debate, but he was more nuanced than your positive portrayal.
And, the left wonders why it keeps getting hammered at the ballot box.
If I could have a pound coin for each of the multitude of reasons stated as to why the left are losing I'd be a millionaire.
Columbus was a brave man, I'll give you that, but that doesn't mean he was a great man. His concern was for the making of his own fortune, and he never worried about the people who already lived in the land.
He was a crappy explorer who landed in the West Indies by accident and he committed genocide against the indigenous people who were nothing but accommodating and cordial to him and his goons!
NO! The First Nations come FIRST! If we're to live here on THEIR land we must PAY OUR RENT and NOT TEAT THEM LIKE CRAP!
Any why Columbus? If you want to celebrate a European who first became aware of the New World, why not Leif Erickson? At least he was a competent explorer, actually landed in North America and didn't mistake it for India because he was a doofus!
That said; I'd say the Indigenous New Worlders deserve credit for discovering the Americas and compensation for being trashed by invading squatters who couldn't be bothered to share or co-exist!
I have no problem with settlers....it's when they decide to hog and conquer that it becomes a problem. Time for the Invaders to make up for the stupid!

He wanted wealth. Gold, spices, slaves, etc. He didn't give a damn about the people he contacted.
It isn't the left trying to make Columbus sound like a hero. It is not the left ignoring the genocides committed throughout Christian history. Hell the right wants to say we have Christian roots which goes against what founding fathers said. Also gerrymandering, and hacking elections helps. I remember the controversy over the 2000 elections and more recently the whole Trump being elected thanks to Russia
