Little girls won't have any problem at all accepting the concept of the Mother Goddess or that they themselves can become goddesses, because for years they lived the fantasy of Wonder Woman and of She-Ra, Princess of Power...Take She-Ra's name, for starters. Ra was the name of the ancient Egyptian sun god, and one of the early names of the Mother Goddess, who is worshiped today by thousands of Witches and Neo-pagans

I admit not being too popculture / youth culture savvy but:
She-Ra? Didn't that series run in the 80s? (And was basically a failed distaff counterpart to He-Man and a 1/2 hour toy commercial?)
Wonder Woman? Since when are DC comics marketed towards little girls?
Also Ra is as far as I know a male god.
In regards to some things, he's right, isn't he? Lots of cults and varieties of new age woo entice adherents by playing into their inherent power hunger, claiming, as an example, that one can attain psychic powers if only they spend thousands of dollars on their books and paraphernalia and "induction sessions" and whatnot.
On the other hand, thumbs up for the quote from a non-Christian fundie, even if it isn't a particularly good one. We need more quotes from fundies besides Christian ones.
Except that gods, goddesses, demons, witches, etc aren't real.
I was confused at first, as I thought that Johanna was a Wiccan, as the site is clearly pagan. However, I read the article, and realized it was quoting a fundamentalist. My bad.
SpukiKitty... unsheath those claws of yours.
Names are irrelevant: whatever the symbol, it's all about empowerment ; next, you'll be taking Hasbro to task about Equestria's Moon Goddess not being called Diana, but 'Luna' instead, eh Johanna, who has a man's name: 'Michael '-sen?! "
...by Celestia's beard, Applejack would facehoof at this pagan fundie's dis honesty.
If I recall correctly, they wanted to call it He-Ra, but that was copyrighted or something.
Had that happened, you might have had more ammo.
Might have.
Well, they believe in gods and creation just as you wanted and they're not atheists. Oh, right, you won't be happy until they believe exactly the same things you do. All that stuff about believing in a higher power is just you trying to stack the numbers against atheists. Kind of like when you claim that "2 billion people can't be wrong" and call the US a "Christian nation" and then turn around and say that Catholics (which make up 1.2 billion Christians) aren't real Christians.
The ones who mentioned Celestia got it right on. You want to rail against a sun goddess figure, her royal and magnificent majesty fits the bill far better. Let's not forget her equally potent and grand sister, her majesty Princess Luna the moon goddess. The advantage of those two is they actually do some good in the world just by being adorable and kind.
Claws Unsheathed! *Kaching!*
Ra was a male God!
Ra was NEVER a Goddess name!
She-Ra & Wonder Woman are cartoons! Not real!
You're just soiling your pants over strong, independent female figures!
You know She-Ra was from the 1980's, right? A bit late to the party, I see.
Here's a female Goddess figure to REALLY soil your pants!

DURGA-KAALI!
Beautiful, glorious Durga-Mata, The Supreme Being in Feminine form, along with her scarier, fiercer, more powerful "berserk" form of Kaali-Mata! And Durga-Kaali has been worshiped, in one form/name or another for much longer than Bible-God!
(Strange that India's rife with misogyny & puritanism. It should go back to it's more Woman/Sex-friendly roots.)
SHE-RA!

They need to bring her back! She was cool!
I like beautiful action-girl characters! She-Ra, Wonder Woman, Taarna, Lara Croft, Samus (except in 'Other M' where she's turned into a submissive bimbo).
"'OTHER M'? NEVER HAPPENED!"

"...OR MY NAME ISN'T SAMUS ARAN!
ANY OBJECTIONS , ADAM...AND Mr. SAKAMOTO?!!! "
Yoshio Sakamoto (game creator) & Adam Malkovich (game character): "But Samus!..."
*BLAMO!*
Well, in theory you're right--when you raise girls to think that they're people too, they don't have much of a problem accepting that the Divine could be female. Because, you know, they don't hate themselves.
However, as SpukiKitti kindly pointed out, Ra is a *male* god name, not female. And witches are typically Neo-Pagans. But hey, at least you remembered how to use proper capitalization!
She-Ra? Are you a time traveler? You would have to find a little girl with pretty geeky parents to know what the hell She-Ra is.
Anyway, hello 1980's person, welcome to the Internet.
Wonder Woman is an awesome character, if she has an author who knows how to write her. I never much cared for She-Ra; even as fan of the Masters Of The Universe toys, I never found the cartoons for them or She-Ra very good. (Give me Saber Rider or the Galaxy Rangers anytime!)
But as She -Ra was just a distaff counterpart of He -Man, I guess they just thought “Hey, He-Man’s name starts with He, maybe hers should start with She.” And then they just added a random syllable to make it sound like a name, probably because they thought a toy named “She-Woman” wouldn’t really appeal to little girls
If you really wanted to be paranoid about pagan influences for a fictional character, why did you not go with Wonder Woman?
Her real name is Diana, the Roman name for the Greek goddess Artemis.
She was created by the Greek gods out of mud.
She is a favourite of Hera and Zeus.
Her mother had a thing with Heracles.
Her main antagonists are Hades and Ares.
For a while she was even a goddess herself!
Why did you miss such an opportunity?
@UHM:
Thirded.
Wonder Woman and She-Ra, neither a motherGoddess image. Both granted powers through paganish magics, neither worshipped by anyone as Gods. And you totally left out Isis while jumping to some nonexistant connection to Egyptian Dieties. Don't you losers ever research anything?
@Kuno
"Wonder Woman is an awesome character, if she has an author who knows how to write her."
Sidenote:
The next Superman movie features the newest Batman AND just announced also Wonder Woman, getting serious about a build up to a Justice Leauge movie to go after that Avengers market.
You're right about Wonder Woman needing good writters on it, the potentials always been there and I think I know what the biggest problems been since her creation. The Diana Prince alter-ego needs to go, I don't think she's ever needed that and it's dragged the character down. The island and Princess Diana is enough background. Oh,,,and no invisible plane people!
@Canadiest:
I fully agree about the secret identity/“Diana Prince“ thing. WW does not need that. She is an ambassador for and/or ruler of her people, why would she need to take on another identity?
I heard about the plans for a Wonder Woman cameo yesterday, but I will not put up my hopes too high. DC has a far from spotless record for movie adaptations.* But hopefully they learned their lesson from the failed TV pilot.
*Although they seem to have gotten over it, but I speak as someone who rather liked Green Lantern and Man of Steel. Others seem to think otherwise.
Yeah, not as bad movies as people are infering. Green Lantern jumped the shark, I think by going too far, way too early for a full Green Lantern Corps epic would have been better to keep Hal on Earth.
Spiderman 3 went to far with Venom so early, would have loved it if the Sandman was more featured (and not flying)and the Harry/Goblin phychosis explored and no sign of Venom. X-Men three was a total clusterfuck. I'm a silver age guy though, they're trying to appeal to the younger base I'm thinking.
Back to Wonder Women, 70s costume I'm hoping. If they spandex pants or leather her up I'll be pissed.
Strangely enough I have some friends who are in no way comic readers (but avid SF fans) and they liked the GL movie a lot. But yeah, X-Men 3 and Spider-Man 3 were
sub-optimal, to say the least.
On the one hand I am glad these two franchises rebounded with First Class and ASM, on the other hand I would be even more happy if Fox and Sony would have abandoned them and the rights would have gotten back to Marvel.
But, as you so rightly said, back to WW: As long as they keep her out of that dreadful white costume from her “kung-fu days”, I am ready to keep an open mind. But I would prefer a kind of Amazonian armour, with noticeable Greek influences.
"Take She-Ra's name, for starters. Ra was the name of the ancient Egyptian sun god, and one of the early names of the Mother Goddess"
And to emphasise & reiterate SpukiKitty...:

That is all.
Joe-hanna, don't force Princess Molestia to use... (*gulp *)... THE BANANA ?!?!!11ONE1eleventyone1 [/The Comfy Chair] [/John Joseco] >:D
@Kuno
Yeah, that'd be good , like the island guard outfits during Perezs run. They're gonna rework it some for sure, but the bodysuit designs they've put up during WW last six maybe-movies are crap ideals.
The Batman looks heavily reworked since Keaton and I immediately accepted it.
Confused?
