I remember watching a program many years ago where this scientist had conducted experiments on humans and different types of animals. When the people died there was a noticible reduction of weight at the moment of death (the beds were on a scale) and with the animals there was no change in weight at the moment of death. His conclusion was that something left the body, but he wasn't sure what.

Yet three days later you people stand at the grave and ask God to welcome the soul. You speak to people at the grave who have been gone for years.
Forget this bullshit experiment (that was wrote before they even pretended to test as there was a predetermined result they had no intention of disproving) you people believe the soul departs to heaven or hell on death and think this experiment proved it scientifically.
Why the hell all the praying, pleading and preaching over the husk?
I actually DID read about something like that. It was in a book by Mary Roach, called Spook. There was a man who did an experiment similar and tried to account for things like moisture lost ect. What he found was a very small weight lost at the time of death for both animals and people, though he admitted he didn't know what it was and it was possible there could be a flaw in his methods. It's been awhile since I've read it.
Anyway, Roach is (I believe) an atheist looking honestly for answers. It was a very intriguing book.
Ah, so the soul has weight, and therefore mass! Excellent! Finally, a break from that spiritual mumbo-jumbo your lot loves so much. Now you've got something actually quantifiable to show us.
Now the next step will be for you to obtain a sample of "soul" and present it for study. After all, if the soul has mass it should be possible to do so. Go ahead, we'll wait.

I'll just stand here
(files nails)
Still waiting

I'm sure your big scientific breakthrough is coming real soon.
...His conclusion was that something left the body, but he wasn't sure what.
Their wallets perhaps? Because if "the soul" has weight then it is made of matter. Now considering that various astronomical telescopes have seen as far as several billion light years away, and there were no signs of heaven, if the soul is indeed material, and since matter cannot travel faster than light... it would take souls several billion years to travel from earth to heaven and vice versa. Moral of the story; don't ever try using science to prove dogma.
Gotta think if this were true, others would have tried it. Get someone on Death Row to agree to participate so you can really prepare the experimental conditions.
Get really, really fine scales.
OOH! Get the state to run two executions in parallel?
Also, try this on people who swear they can travel astrally. Does the weight change while they’re out of body?
But if anyone on the funding committee googles your inspiratoin, you’re getting bupkes.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
